Will realism replace gonzoism?
Something Litzer said in his Ex-GF content post got me thinking-
Quote:
Seems like in the last several years gonzo had really been what was driving the adult market. Even in dating you can feel it. One of the sites I worked for in the past had video content in the members area, and while most of it was glam and vanilla the "Pink-Eye" series quickly became the members' favorite. Almost 10 years ago when I got into this game your average 18 - 19 year old on an adult dating site was looking for a girl who liked giving bjs and his wildest fantasy might be a facial. Now they are writing profiles looking for girls who will let them go ass to mouth. What I like about the Ex-GF niche, and what I would like to see follow, is a return to more realistic porn. I'm not talking about taking it old school to a bear skinned rug and a fire place for some simple in and out in soft focus, I'm not talking making more romantic, I'm more thinking along the lines of keeping things lo-fi and relating intimate, mutually pleasureable, realistic sex. Content isn't really my game, but where do you guys see things going? Do you think that the rise in Ex-GF is a response to burn out on Gonzo? Is EX-GF just a fad or do you see it as possibly the next step in a coming trend? |

I prefer looking at porn that has zero pornstar-ness about it. I would much rather imagine I'm looking at my neighbours than at someone who was paid to fuck on camera.
Although I'm not a voyeur, I do like watching videos that make me feel ike I'm watching the couple next door. Shit camera work, bad lighting, barely attractive people are my niche - and always have been. As soon as I see some buff, tattoo covered dude fucking a well-lighted bitch with a tramp stamp I'm switching channels. The shittier and more amateur it is - the more I like it. But most of these EXGF sites terrify me. EXGF is the same thing I was doing in 1998. After about a year, I really started to hate the submissions I was getting. The phone calls from Project P was the icing on the cake. I couldn't police my own websites, so I abondoned the user submitted amateur stuff. Still, if I could find a real 2257 compliant exgf blowjob/facial site I would be one funky monkey. |

Content theft is something the whole adult industry is suffering though on all niches and production levels. I think possibly an advantage to this over studio produced is typically the theives seem to be putting most of it behind members areas, so at least you could see it as competing paid against paid instead of paid against free as many of the bigger names in adult seem to be struggling against. Again, these are opinions from the peanut gallery, just my thoughts. ![]() |

But I when I say "Project P" I'm talking about the Ontario Provincial Police's child pornography unit. Around 1998-2001 I had a partner. This asshat ran the technical aspects of my business, while I updated websites and handled promotion. It turns out that while I was promoting Wifey, Oral Amber, Dagny, Queeny Love, etc; (all old-school home made porn at the time), he was uploading terribly nasty stuff to hidden directories that he would share with his "clique" - all of it hosted on servers that were owned or rented by me. Getting down to it, the cops didn't care that I was a smut peddler. Even at that time they knew I was being used. They finally got him in Australia sometime in 2003. Meanwhile, I let every domain he was involved with drop - and I lost a LOT of profitable domains. I thank my lucky stars that the cops were reasonable, and fucking right I co-operated with every step of the investigation. But I also know that there is still a list somewhere with my name on it. And there is no way I will touch or promote random uploads again. |

This business goes from content shot on a phone by a BF to what Viv Thomas produces. And above. There's money in it all.
The problem is how many can afford or produce what Viv Thomas shoots and how many can afford or produce what a BF can on his phone? Where's the money? Very few people can shoot like Viv and even though the market is small, the profit is high. Because of the lack of supply. The bottom end of the market has a far larger market, yet the profit is low. Because of the over supply. If the sellers were making more money, they could spend more on content. The profits dictate the prices they can pay. |
