any ideas for fixing this W7 computer problem?

Anyhoo, one of my boxes is acting up and I wanted to see if you have any thoughts. Several (but not all) programs are running slow. Both browsers take forever to load pages, many times the server will time out. when I click on the file icon in the tool bar for windows explorer (the computer explorer, not the internet explorer), the window that pops up is the libraries wiindow, with all blank icons and the comp tries and tries to load that window and never does, so my favorites, library, and computer locations never show- no hard drives, no documents, music, desktop or recent places show.

In fact, the green bar going across the top never even starts. Also, I run 2 monitors on this machine, on reboot the main monitor is not found many times, i've switched cables and monitors and cannot find a pattern, then out of the blue, the computer recognizes both monitors.

Things i've done-

*updated* windows 7 from the disc. (it stated there was a .net 4.0 framework issue and it *repaired* it.
reseated the video card and updated the driver.

ran syschk from the cmd prompt (no issues found)

ran deep scan with ms security essentials. no threats found.

uninstalled and reinstalled several software apps.

ran memory check- all good.

ran *disk checker, repair bad sectors* on all drives, no bad sectors found.

replaced 2 secondary drives with one larger drive.

I think that's all i've tried, i wonder if i should f disk and reinstall everything on a completely wiped c drive? or maybe it's a hardware issue, the power supply? maybe the video card? i don't think it's the motherboard or cpu as the sytem goes through the boot sequence properly, it seems.

Any ideas? thx

is this an HP notebook? one of my HP notebooks was all good and peachy till i started using it with secondary monitor through HDMI cable.. then after a month it all went to shit - after taking completely apart the notebook, i had to in order to get to heat sink, i found out their hardware architecture wasn't that great in terms of cooling video card.. the result was defective video card which only works now with standard windows default drivers.

your issue maybe for a number of different issues.. from what i've read it either looks one of the following: corrupted win system, overheating cpu/video (maybe damaged circuitry because of excessive overheating like in my case with video card) or bad memory which looks like can be ruled out since your mem-check came out good.

what happens when you boot into safe mode? if it runs fine in safe mode then you can eliminate the Windows OS and hardware issues and start looking at the hardware drivers for possible issues.

ok, i am in safe mode with networking and the only issue withstanding is the monitor issue, the system only recognizes the second monitor, not the primary monitor. the windoes explorer is working fine and pages load quickly as well, do you think this is a video driver issue? shuld i remove the driver entirely and reinstall?

thx!

I would remove the video card from the device manager list and reboot, letting windows (re)discover the new hardware (video card) and install the drivers.

cool...I would check the video card manufacturers site for an updated driver, plus sometimes they have a support forum and maybe there is a thread about your issues.
