I got this email from Epassporte (10/18)

I asked about the funds still in my eWallet and this is what they said today 10/18:

"Within the next 24 hours, on the ePassporte website, you will be able to enter a request for a wire transfer of your funds to the bank you have on file. ePassporte will send a wire transfer of all of your funds to this bank.

Please be patient with ePassporte as we have received numerous fraudulent requests for wire and are having to check each request carefully. We will process your request as quickly as possible."

Collecting interest on our funds they've held hostage for close to two months is the only fraud going on at Epass.

after login now they removed the total amount of funds in ewallet account.

For some people this menas that they are preparing themself for the tragic end.

Could be only that if they are really working to offer us new interface to send documents.... but...

What you belive ?

When this whole shit went down, I had just done some big transactions. Just sold some nice sites which netted me a little over 10k... and then boom! Can't access my money. I thought I was lucky for properly setting up the wallet, then I realized the wallet was the worst place to keep the money. It's all gone now. Nothing I can do about it. Nobody is going to send me anything.

Do not trust these middlemen. None of them... They're here to do a few years of good business to earn trust and then rob us. All of them.

None of these companies will maintain 110% of the funds held in customer accounts in the form of cash and security. Unless they can somehow be better than a bank and fully fund liability to account holders then they are just as liable to fall over badly if something goes wrong.

I am sure ePassporte was sailing along with funding for only a portion of it's liabilities to account holders happy that many people kept their funds in their wallets. As soon as Visa pulled the plug all hell broke loose and the stack of cards came crashing down.

Why are people so sure about this? Epassporte and most other other ewallet systems are NOT banks, so can't compare to them. Banks make biggest part of their income from interests/investments. Ewallets instead should use Fees to get the profits. Of course when total amount of deposits in such system gets enough high, there's a possibility to tie it to something for higher interests, but this should be mentioned in terms then.

Obviously they won't hold millions as Cash, but they should maintain majority of account balances in somewhat liquid form and not tie it to some investments, isn't there even some laws about this?
