I am flying from San Francisco airport on Monday. Which means I have to pick from the body scan or having somebody being allowed to go down my pants in public and without even buying me' a drink first. Yet, that feels less crappy than having a naked shot on record somewhere. Plus, I wouldn't like to think of the danger money the guy watching my scan would require.

What choice will you make when you next fly?

In theory I agree. However, as much as I dream of moving to San Francisco (and I think there is a chance it might happen), I am currently an ocean away from home. So, I sort of need to fly.

Unfortunately that just isn't practical for a lot of people. However, I do think if there is enough of a boycott the airlines and airports may finally realize they need to make changes. They might be the only ones that have enough power to make a difference. Even Congress is getting pushed aside... which is amazing in itself.

There is more and more talk of airports bringing in private firms for security. They would still need to adhere to TSA rules, but I think the idea is private security firms don't have the same employee protection that the TSA would have and so they can filter out "bad employees" quicker.

You know, they ONLY approved those things because when first presented, the doctors were told the scanners would be RARELY USED. They say they would NOT have and DO not approve them being used on 100% of passengers. It's too much radiation people.

US customs policy suck too. Even if you're just a connecting passenger, you still have to go through immigration, and haul all your bags with you. Then for example, you have a 9 hour layover in LAX, but can't check-in until 3 hours before your flight, so you're stuck lugging your shit around for 6 hours.

No other country in the world does that. They let you stay in a secured area, keep your luggage for you, and let you get drunk & eat while you play on the internet, until you're ready to board your flight pissed and ready to pass out. You stumble onto the plane, wake up at your destination, and onwards with your life you go.

I've got a daughter too, about the same age, and she'd have had to bail my ass outta jail if we'd have run into that same sort of TSA interface.
