http://wonder-tonic.com/geocitiesizer/ Fucking hilarious. I entered Webmasterlabor.Com and got an animated gif of Bill Gates with horns. Your results may vary.

It does bring back a lot of memories though! ALTAVISTA FTW!

The Pee Wee Herman pic adds a nice touch to the site's overall "ambience" :thumbsup

lazycash 03-31-2011 09:08 PM

This site still looks the same from 96 - http://www.sleazydream.com/main.html

MetaMan 03-31-2011 09:13 PM

I honestly miss the old school net. I have been around since about 95 i know some people even longer. The websites seemed to have more character. There was a more underground feel to the net.

Back then being on computers was for "nerds". I remember rushing home to see where my websites ranked on toplists.

I still enjoy my work but back then it was pure fun. Now the net has gotten so "corporate". Even though there would be less money to have been made part of still wished it was "underground".

the noobs of today seriously have no idea what they missed out on. i remember cussing out webmasters in icq chat daily.

garce 03-31-2011 09:27 PM

There's a good chance that a site that looks (somewhat) like that one could still be very profitable, given the right niche.

Sometimes individuality counts for more than generic Wordpress templates. :2 cents:

papill0n 03-31-2011 09:34 PM

<blink>i have a cool website yay</blink>

Elli 03-31-2011 09:34 PM

Although you're talking about NOW, I don't for one second doubt that geocities sites with hideous blinking garbage MADE MONEY back in 1996. People would click on anything back then. :1orglaugh:thumbsup

Just based on the discussion on the thread here about Geocities finally being closed by Yahoo, many adult webmasters got started on GC due to free hosting back in the day.

Ah... 1996 to 1999 when hosting was expensive, content was relatively unsaturated, and people clicked on anything :1orglaugh:thumbsup
