business thread.... geo targeting ads, false advertising in general? discuss.
I'll be the first to admit I advertise girls as "online" that probably aren't online. Plenty people use fake chat promos, the fake im box pop ups, or saying someone is in your city but they are not. 95% of us probably do some or all of that.
So... when I read this it made me think, would be fucked if Attorney generals ever went after porn / online sites? Almost everyday I get hit with some pop up from a site saying I am A WINNER!!! when you know i didn't win shit. http://www.state.ia.us/government/ag..._Group%20.html Quote:
The AG is asking for $40,000 a violation. so.... when we advertise someone as being in their town, they signup and that person is not. Is that any different (or worse) than saying this car has been repo'ed this price is rock bottom and it is just a car off the lot with normal pricing? Seems to me we would be fucked. What do you think? |
Nope....because I have a little thing that says "For illustrative purposes only. Not actual member data." I have that all over the place.

I guess this thread is closed.

People sell shit all the time that are false but people buy it because the marketing is amazing. I know how to add about an inch and half to your cock in about two months. I can guarantee it if you follow my routine to the "T". |

Well it showed that these 100 girls were all from the surfer's city "Dallas". So he signed up to talk to them, but he didn't see the fine print at the bottom that said it was a lie and those girls weren't even members of the site much less from his city. :Oh crap The fake pop im messages boxes " Hi there I want to talk to you" (for illustration purposes only... had i been a real girl i may have wanted to talk to you. Real girls may exist and may want to talk to you on my site if you put your credit card in). :1orglaugh |
deceptive ads are everywhere, i have always had a hard time figuring out where the line lays as well as it ISN'T very clear.
Every burger ad is a lie and obviously deceptive. I have heard it described as how the consumer interprets the deception. When you see a travel ad you realise you are not going to have the EXACT same experience as the people on the pristine beach sipping cocktails you will never get this burger in any burger king , yet it is what they are offering. http://www.mysuboo.com/content/photo...fb5efc4eeb.jpg |
There is a fine line between clever advertising/marketing versus straight up fraud. Hopefully the ones using shitty practices will be found and punished.

almost all businesses engage in false advertising to some degree. it's luck of the draw if you get singled out. our next door neighbor when i was a teenager was a diamond dealer, he got charged with deceptive advertising, the court case seemed to last forever.
the one i fucking hate is the retailers who advertisers that WE PAY THE TAX!!! and in tiny print at the bottom they say 'prices have been reduced blah blah blah prior to taxes making the equivalent etc etc' no they haven't, it's total bullshit and i can't believe they don't get charged. been going on for decades. if you're paying the tax, fucking pay the tax. grrrrrrrrrrrrr and MSRP - total bullshit, there's not a moron on the planet who has ever paid the MSRP on anything. then there's the 75% off sale - 75% off fucking what, show me that product advertised at one time for $100 and then charge me $25 for it. that's 75% off. they just make up this bullshit. what they reallly mean is 75% off their regular markup - more bullshit since no consumer has any clue what their regular markup is. |
