what does it mean if half of my visitors are form bookmarks?

Half of my blog visitors come in from bookmarks, apparently, there is no referrer in awestats.

Does this mean that people are subscribing to my blog and revisiting to check for updates? or is it something else?

I am supposed to be getting 100 or so unique visits a day, so I dont think my own updates and refreshes are generating 50 unique visitors in awestats...

Any ideas?

Is that normal? Is it a good thing? It seems like a suspiciously large amount of bookmarks.

I think your looking at a dribble of traffic and making too much of it.

It could be type-in traffic as well; wouldn't most of you agree?

I theorize this because of the fact that type-in traffic has no referrer (or a blank referrer) in itself.

So it might not all be bookmark traffic. However, as someone stated above, the more bookmarks you do have, even if there is some type-in traffic mixed in with that bookmark traffic, you are doing something right. It is very good to have return visitors, and bookmarks just makes it a whole lot easier.

Be careful when reading stats - a little knowledge can be a bad thing . . . . just because there is "noreferrer" does not mean they have automatically come from bookmarks. There are other ways a visitor can be classed as "noreferrer".
Having said that, why are you worried? 100 hits a day isn't a lot and if they ARE coming from bookmarks or type-ins then that's a good thing.
I would spend more time trying to increase your traffic than worrying where the 100 or so you already have come from. Make sure your site is optimized for the search engines and then get some quality, niche-specific hardlinks with other sites for starters . .

Thanks alot guys, mainly I was worried it might indicate my content was being hotlinked or something. (dont know why I suspected that) Yeah I need more traffic, that is for sure. I dont know much about webmastering, but I do know that in other areas trying to analyze a data sample that is insignificant will not yield meaningful results, so I guess I just keep building and try to look at it again when daily visits get in the thousands.

@lazerbunny: I voted for you, my newbie blog is at http://porfaplease.com its a work in progress. I wouldnt have taken up the teen niche if I had known so many people take that word the wrong way.

Exactly right - build the traffic, then analyze it.
For your info, the golden egg for TGP and blog owners is to have as many bookmarks as they can - it's what they all aim for. So if you are getting that already then you are obviously on the right track.
Plus, don't worry about not knowing much about webmastering at this stage - half the fun is learning new things and testing things out - you will pick it up soon enough - and if you're not clear on something just ask on GFY - good luck!

When someone is just starting out going from 0-60 in a few seconds in the big picture of things is pretty awesome. I dont see the point in being negative, so aside from the fact that regardless if its a "dribble" of traffic or not, it's still good for this person to make a big deal out of it, because it is a big deal. I think its a great thing that half the people that go to the site bookmark it. It doesn't even matter if its 5/10 bookmark the site and return.. that's still half and from a marketing standpoint statistics are the key to success. Personally, I think that if you've "worked for a lot of hosting companies" and you think that one is the best, your opinion has just been deemed superfluous by your own account. But, that's just my opinion, and of course opinions are like assholes.. everyone's got one.

Aww don't be mean to the guy, he's just starting out. What if he converts half of them daily? Quality, not quantity. Keep up the work on the blog!

Totally agree, you have to start somewhere. Try to build up the traffic first and then analyse it, try to aim for phrases and not just keywords the majority of your traffic should come from search engines. google analytics FTW!

I don't think he was trying to hurt the original posters feelings. His statement was quite correct. It's to little of traffic to get any type of assessment. And being new in the business, you could easily get caught up in it and over analyze something that should be completely overlooked for the time being.
