phoenix never a hotel room forum
Every year I got a room at Mission Palms or courtyard Marriot (been sold out for 2 months or so). Last year all was booked so I had to get a hotel and use taxis. It's a major inconvenience. Also the show seems to be more for gay companies than straight and it seems sponsor get occupancy of almost 100% of the hotel being at 2 hours after rooms went for sale they sold out.. There is only 2 hotels within walking distance and both sold out. I just feel out of the show and a NON attendee staying off campus. I love the phoenix forum. I been sponsoring Major dinner for almost 10 years at Maestros City Hall ( 1 of my favorite resturaunts in the world). It's the point too. Like I should have to beg for a room. Fuck it. I am kind of pissed.

lots of hotels within a 10 minute cab but yeah, always nice to be on the property

The idea of a show is the venue is large enough to hold everyone so they can meet and mingle..The Mission Palms is obviously not big enough anymore...If the hotel isn't big enough set up the venue in an area of all walkable hotels. thats how most cities are. I guess Moral of Story is Congrats to gentleman who run the show in that they have done a great job but it's time to move the venue or limit sponsorships.
|
I agree entirely. The hotel is a nice spot for a lot of reasons, but if it really sells out that quick and people like us can't get rooms (I tried calling immediately and wasted half my morning for nothing) and are forced to commute it's definitely off putting.
|
Not to mention the fact that the hotel has an outdated phone system that can't handle all callers in the order they are received makes trying to book at room the day of a joke.

There is beautiful hotels like the W 10 minutes away. I hear for next year they have a new 150 room hotel opening accross the street. So problems should be solved. I just hate the taxi bs. I will end of going...It's a great show... |

If 911 got as many calls at one time as TMP gets in the first hour, it would probably give you a busy signal as well. I was getting busy circuits as frequently as I got a busy signal. That has NOTHING to do with TMP or their phone system. |
Rent a car and stay at the 4Points on Rural Road. This is what I used to do for years.
Do some shopping, go to a hockey game, go golfing, etc.. |

I'm not talking about getting a busy signal straight off. The hotel answers, asks what you need. You say reservations and then they forward you to a busy line. Hang up and repeat a hundred times if you really want to try to get a room. Comcast in Chicago handles many more calls constantly than TMP handles during that one period, but they are able to put me in a queue where I wait. I'm willing to wait an hour if that's the demand, but the clown show of talking to the same receptionist every minute only to be transferred to a busy line is a joke. |

And pretty sure Comcast needs a much larger system than a small hotel like TMP |

If you've attended and booked your own room before, then you would know that the rooms tend to sell out in under an hour. I was actually surprised it took so long for them to sell out this year compared to previous years. The Four Points down the road still had rooms as of this morning at a decent price.

Don't a bunch of rooms always magically open up as the show approaches?

Even though I got a room I completely agree with you, time for a larger venue one would think. The staff at the mission palms is always very accommodating, well not so much the gastapo security that will throw you out if your badge isn't front and center at all hours.
What burns my ass (because I'm a cheap heeb) is the so called group rate is about $90 higher per night than the usual rate. Little bit of a fucking imo, yet I pay it and go year after year. /rant ;-) |

I don't care what number I called. If they can't help me out and route me to the proper place that is bad service on the hotel. Lloyd, you can defend them all you want but I was on the phone and you were not. The shit was ridiculous.

I spoke with Kathi today. I'm cool with The Phoenix Forum. I had a terrible experience with the Mission Palms service today. All facts. |

Ok just making sure. Seemed like you had it in for me today. I just had a shitty day in general.
I will be there! |
I just made a reservation a few days ago at the Loft. It looks lovely and it's just over a mile away.
To be honest, I prefer to stay off site. Sometimes it's good to just get away for a bit. The rooms are only $119 plus tax there btw. |
