Are you a fan of Chihuahua's?

I always thought of them as lap dogs who YAP. We found this little guy roaming the street. He had no colar, no chip and was not fixed or trained. I posted signs and called all the local apartment complex's but no one claimed him after 2 weeks. The vet said he was about 2 years old its and its pretty common that people are abandoning dogs due to economic times etc.

Anyways, meet Jack. One of the coolest, most mellow little dogs who loves to chase balls and now has a good home.

geedub 06-22-2010 07:46 AM

my german shepherd/husky loves playing with the neighbor's chihuahuas, except the older one always bites my dog in the face, she is intense lol

candyflip 06-22-2010 08:00 AM

Mine nipped at both my babies a few weeks back and is now living with my grandmother.

closer 06-22-2010 08:05 AM

Nasty little critters, very vicious and expensive in care

ottopottomouse 06-22-2010 08:05 AM

Bit tiny for me but lovely looking dog :)

I've never let my dog anywhere with even the tiniest chance of getting near baby. It's one thing that would really worry me.

Chosen 06-22-2010 08:10 AM

I'm not :)

They're not infants, I just call them my babies, well...because they are.

They know better than to go near the dog while he's eating or in his space. He got them both in the same day, and this is a dog who hasn't had issue with kids for 2 years now. It wasn't that big of a deal, but enough reason for my girl to want him gone.

Thankfully my Grandma loves him and he spends his days being treated like a king.

We regularly have Pitbulls in the backyard with my kids. I have no issues with any sort of Dog breed being around them.

That is what I thought until I got this guy. Hopefully, his personallity wont change drastically as he gets older. I think its important to train them.

UFGators2007 06-22-2010 08:48 AM

Jack is cute. Nice to hear he is mellow, unlike some of the chihuahua I've known!

Meeper 06-22-2010 08:51 AM

Every chihuahua I have encountered has been super skidish and a barking / yapping machine. I would never get one.

Congrats on the rescue and adoption. I have several Chihuahua's. They certainly changed my life :)

ShellyCrash 06-22-2010 09:24 AM

My chi gets yappy when someone comes over that he's never met before or doesn't know real well, it can give people the wrong impression and I'm sure it can get annoying, but day to day w/ people he's familliar with he's pretty chill.

thickcash_amo 06-22-2010 09:24 AM

Aww that's awesome that you took him in! Their personalities really depend on how you train/raise them...so I am sure he will be a great dog for ya ;)

Roby 06-22-2010 09:28 AM

they are nice !

tranza 06-22-2010 09:37 AM

I'm glad he found a good home... :)

My neighbor has 4 hairless chi's next door with the little white mohawks running down their backs. I call them the aliens. I dont have anything against dogs but she leaves them in her back yard when she goes to work. As soon as they hear anything they all start yipping. I once timed it and they barked nonstop for 45 minutes straight. I then called the cops who issued her a warning.

It got better at the end of last year but now that summer is rolling around again she fell into the same pattern.

They're Chinese Crested :2 cents: :thumbsup

Not quite the same as chihuahua. I think they look pretty awesome, but they tend to have alot of health issues.

Vendzilla 06-22-2010 10:08 AM

they make great chew toys for my mastiff

I have a chiwawa and a mini pincher. They are both very cool small dogs with different characters.
Looking at the pictures I think you have a mixture of a chiwawa and a min pin...

TeenCat 06-22-2010 10:11 AM

Well done on the rescue!

Our chihuahua was rescued from a puppy mill. He was born with a malformed eye, crooked frame, and broken tail. Not sure if the tail was from birth of the idiots hurt him at one point. But anyway, his name is TIKI and he's a great little dog.

he is.

wasn't always that way though. back when he was a pup, i inadvertently stepped on him- hard. i fractured his leg length-wise and shattered his kneecap. orthopedic surgery, a titanium screw, rehab, and $5000 later he's happy.

That is what I thought at first but not sure. I looked at many pics and the vet said he was a chihuaha.

When Chavez was a puppy he was playing with Rosie and they were runnung around the house. Rosie, being bigger, ran and jumped up onto the couch not using the pet steps. Chavez, right behind her, tried to do the same. He bounced off and hit the tile, broke his elbow in two places.

Needed a pin and a screw. Not sure how much the whole ordeal set me back, the surgery itself was $3k. I think I made it out all said and done still shy of $4k. What a fucking nightmare that was. Sorry to hear you went through this also.

I love my little butter bean though, he's worth every cent.
