I can't believe how silent hockey fans on this board are. Boston's been hammering Vancouver for the last 2 games, what was it, 8-1 and then last night 4-0?

I was hoping the Bruins would make this a series, and oh wow did they ever. Game on.

Ha ha.

Regarding last night's game, some pretty bad reffing going on at times, especially in the turd period, a non-call on Boston for too man men on the ice, and one of the worst penalty calls I've ever seen on one of the Sedin brothers for "tripping". Ugh.

But sadly I doubt the absence of that bad reffing would have greatly affected the outcome of the game. Canucks got whipped, period.

To be fair, that made up for the earlier penalty in the game on Marchand when Bieksa basically fell (or threw himself on the ice - that wouldn't shock me). Was pretty much the same thing.

If the refs called a penalty every time a Vancouver Caschmuck dived or embelished they would be shorthanded the whole game. Vancouver is embarrassment to the NHL they way they dive and embelish.

The diving and embellishment that goes on is pretty sucky and pathetic, agreed.

Is it really all on the Canucks, or have a few Bruins players done it too?

Hockey is turning into Football (soccer)

Diving and the fake high sticking is getting very lame and the refs can't seem to distinguish between the 2.

Seems to be going both ways, someone fakes a high stick and gets a penalty. Then someone actually gets tripped or a stick to the head and it goes unpunished.

What I don't get is this though, how can the teams play so much different in another stadium. It is almost as if they leave the teams at home when they travel.

I wouldn't say Vancouver done that much better in the first 2 games but they had an edge, then they go to Boston and turn into a different set of players altogether.

Doesn't make any sense!

Bruins have done it, every team does it. That being said, for some reason both the Canadiens and Canucks were major divers (surprisingly Montreal was about 2-3x worse than Van has been). Canucks are more of a cheap shot team, while Montreal really looked like a Soccer team on ice... or a bunch of Lebron James:

I think you need to stop talking about hockey. Just because your fat ass gets to skate few times a week in I-league doesn't mean you know the game.
so STFU.

No the Bruins are embelishing also but its truely pathetic how the Caschmucks try and get a call on every play. Like I said in another post I was working in the zamboni tunnel during a Kings - Caschmucks game and I heard ref yell to Sedin.. " ARE YOU KIDDING ME< GET THE FUCK UP "

On that note WTF is that rookie Brad Marchand thinking.. its 4-0 game is over and he clotheslines a player in the corner then goes at another players knees and upends him. Game was over, let sleeping dogs lie. Look what happened when that asshat Rome did that play that turned the series around. Marchands play was not as bad but just as stupid.

What the NHL should do is make diving a suspendable offense. If the review shows a dive or embelishment, suspend them 1 game, if it continues make the suspension worse. Only problem is when your on the ice sometimes theres a reflex to turn your head quick in order to protect yourself.

You seem pretty knowlegeable CDSMITH whats your thoughts.

Having skated with Joe and checked out Kings games at his most gracious invitation, I can personally verify that Joe knows more about hockey than most. Now, you may not agree with what he is saying about the Canuckleundertheplayoffpressures but that does not mean that Joe don't know hockey...

;-)

(btw... I am not a Boston fan but you got to hand it to them for turning this into a real playoff series when most expected Vancouver to just zamboni over them in 4)

I thought Don Cherry's tirade about the hardened shoulder pads was very interesting. He has a great point. They're not afraid to dig into their shoulder checks these days because they're so well protected. Just like people drive too fast in their cars now because they feel they have super duper brakes and airbags all over the place.

Based on his previous "ASSestments" of Canadashmucks or what ever he calls them, he knows jackshit. He can't even tell if player was hit by elbow or shoulder despite of gif file that was showed to him and replay video in slow motion. He can't even count strides for fuck sake. Guy is a duffas.

PS: Im not Vancouver fan, but I've played the game and been hit and layed a hit on players that have their head down this way. Had Horton had his head up and didn't get hurt people would be saying "What a great check that was".

For once he said something rational.
But what does ex-coach of Boston Bruins knows about ice hockey? It the overweight jobless porn shooters that know it all. Grapes is so over-rated.

Is this satire or are you being serious? Horton had his head up, and Rome stepped into his check so much that it took him off his skates when it happened. You don't leave your skates from an open ice hit unless your body motion (up) was taking you that direction.

Are people actually debating this hit? There was no avoiding this hit on Horton's part.

I just watched it again and while I agree that Horton should have had his head up that was a dirty hit. Looking up wouldn't change how late it was delivered or the fact that Rome left the ice with both feet like he was going to fly like Superman and went intentionally head high. If he went lower with a hip check and didn't jump off into it then probably it would be another story. If. If. If...

Another part of the problem is that in youth hockey today playing "heads up" hockey is way different than when I was growing up and everyone played without helmets still. Most of the stickhandling hot shots of today's game wouldn't last a week in the days of the Broadstreet Bully style of play where the head being down was like death wish and suicide passes were a contract with the Grim Reaper wielding a hockey stick like a scythe.

that it was a bit late.

Head up? Maybe up his ass. watching the puck go and crunched.

Enjoy.. head up eh? Count how many strides he makes after he lets the puck go and getting hit. One stride.. You knwo what that translates to in real motion? less than a fucking second. You ever played defense ? You know the basic rules of blue line forechecking . Im not talking about playing in "over 50 and 300lbs" league.. Talking about competitive hockey?

Whats "open ice" like in LA these days? Bunch of fat fucks dressed up in cheap replica jerseys with misspelled names of HOF players trying to skate around and push "THAT" thing in the goal?

Actually I did play defense for my high school hockey team and various pickup leagues after that. Have you? Wait, that's irrelevant, let me ask a better question, do you have eyes? Ok, good. So you can see from this video https://youtube.com/watch?v=eXi7TM7moP4 he got rid of the puck at the edge of the B, yet Rome had time to stop, and hit him in an upward motion roughly 10 feet away, almost 2 full strides. That gif you're showing doesn't even show Horton with the puck and still shows him nearly taking 2 strides.

Look at that video, he had plenty of time to let up on the hit. Should he have hit him at all? I don't really have a problem with the timing. Like everyone is saying, it was a tad late, but we see checks being finished more-so in the playoffs, that's life. The problem was that he seen Horton wasn't looking, had time to react to it, but chose to lay into him in the upward motion aiming AT HIS HEAD.

Your gif clearly shows his shoulder laying into Horton's head. Horton is 6'2 and Rome is 6'1. It's not like Chara out there who's shoulder is at everyones head level. It's not easy to hit a guy in the head an inch taller than you in the head unless you intend to. That's the dirty part you're clearly not understanding.

The refs are paid off obviously. The big US market is more important to the NHL than a little Canadian city.NBC dictates what they want for ratings.let the Bruins hack and slash in order to win.Nothing would be more satisfying than to watch people eat their words

lol, so you admit it was a late enough hit to warrant a penalty, and assuming you have eyes, can clearly see his shoulder in Horton's head, and if you have reading comprehension, here:

48.1 Illegal Check to the Head ? A lateral or blind side hit to an opponent where the head is targeted and/or the principal point of contact is not permitted.

You admitting Horton was not looking makes this a blind side hit to the head. What's difficult for that to understand?

The refs are paid off? What makes you say that? They've had plenty of bad calls on both sides this series. The Sedin penalty was a bad one, but so was the earlier Marchand call. Then later in the game they had matching penalties off the face-off from two weak slashes that I think shocked both players for being called.

Honestly, the Bruins have been one of the best 5 on 5 teams in the playoffs, so if anything, calling penalties for them hurts more than even strength lol.

Btw, if the NHL wanted ratings with American teams, they would have just made Chicago knock off Vancouver right away and brought them to the finals to face another original 6 team in Boston.

That's the dirty part you're clearly not understanding.
that all being said, are you watching the series? the hit, without the injury, is typical of all hits throughout the series. Rome has a 4 game suspension but yet there is an example of a 'worse hit' in this very thread

the difference between these teams, obviously, is our guys don't twitch like dead chickens when they run into defensive players.

Lord Stanley applauds from grave as Homegrown Video fields adult hockey team

I know y'all are busy with Stanley Cup hockey talk but I would just like to mention Homegrown Video's own PussyCats just pulled down another win (3-1) in a penalty laden game that saw one of its players get a most unfortunate one game suspension...

You admitting Horton was not looking makes this a blind side hit to the head. What's difficult for that to understand?
Dont contradict JUST hahaha ALEX hes a 10 time Stanley Cup champ. He knows everything. Hell he even video tapes his skills.

That being said I do think the Bruins are getting away with alot of slashing penalties. I think Marchand slashed Sedin Fag # 1 like 4 times lining up for a faceoff.

The only way I am trying to "pussify" the game was to start a team for the Seattle adult league called "The HGV Pussycats".

I play hockey and I used to play lacrosse where almost everything that is illegal in hockey is legal and with less pads. Hitting is a part of the game and at any level of the game where there are hits there are going to be concussions - that is just a fact until some sort of miracle helmet is invented.

The hit was late and it clearly targeted the head. He could of done the same job with a hip check imo and it wouldn't have drawn a penalty or a suspension. No one is saying that Horton wasn't making a huge mistake by not seeing peripherally.

Its not about pussifying the game killerk Its about protecting career ending injuries. Yes it was a late hit but shoulder also made contact to the head. Both combined I think made for the 4 game suspension. If the hit had not have been late it may have been just a rule 48 penalty. Look at the star players being knocked out of commission due to concussions...
Crosbey , Helmuis , the player from Boston whose name slips my mind now thats been out all year almost , Hell Bob Probert died due to hits to the head long term probably.

100 PERCENT CORRECT. Knowing the intensity of this series Horton SHOULD NOT have been admiring his pass... but that doesnt mean someone has the right to rob your house if you leave the door unlocked.

Plenty of time? How about you and you fat ass from LA try to lay a hit on each other and then try to change you mind half of second later...
Idiots.
I would love to lay both of out in a game. Would love it.

Yea, it's typical of all the hits! lol Jesus every other hit is a shoulder launch to the head. That Horton is such a pussy.

I do play it. Remember you asked and I answered that?

As far as Rome, he shouldn't have been launching his shoulder into Horton's head at ALL even if he was carrying the puck and the timing was fine. It was a dirty hit.

None of my coaches have ever told me to bite people, pull hair https://youtube.com/watch?v=DGysIQ3NNTk, dive https://youtube.com/watch?v=yrULavQbt2A, or lay my shoulder into someones head.

Are you sure you're not confusing your "hockey experience" with soccer? You sure sound like one of those dirty pussy soccer players to me.
