Border Patrol Checkpoint

They took the dog around my car and when the dog looked at me it when straight nuts. Barking, drooling, scratching my car. The fucking Nazi officer did nothing. Just let the dog scare the shit out of me. The stupid mutt got like 8 inches from my face before the other officer told him to pull it back. They didn't find anything so they let me go. I asked why I was stopped and was told it was because the dog barked at me.

Welcome to Nazi Germany.

This was in Arizona. Not even close to the US/Mexico border.

Always bring some doggy biscuits. Then when the dog goes wild you pop one in your mouth and start talking about how the economy went to shit and how the whole world is going to shit and how we have a black man for president...

At that point they don't want to listen to your stories so they wave you on.

The fact that you are in AZ puts you close to the Mexican border, pretty much by default.

You don't think white people smuggle stuff? And that is hardly being "hassled."

I don't mind checkpoints at the border. Not hundreds of miles from the border. And I was hassled. I was stopped for like 10 minutes. I had to get out of my car while they asked me 20 questions and ran the dog over my car for a 2nd time.

I miss the old days. In 1997 when I went through I was in a car that consisted of 2 Mexicans (with citizenship) and 2 white people.

All we were asked is "are you a US citizen?" You just had to answer yes. The Mexican's got ID'd but that's it. I guess border patrol didn't realize that white people can be foreigners, too. I mean what if I was a Dutch citizen sneaking into the country?!

Nope. It was north of the border by a good bit.

They didn't even ask me about drugs or my citizenship. All of their questions were about what I was doing in the area.

Learn your 4th Amendment rights.

The Supreme Court held that individuals in automobiles have a reduced expectation of privacy, because vehicles generally do not serve as residences or repositories of personal effects. Vehicles may not be randomly stopped and searched; there must be probable cause or reasonable suspicion of criminal activity. Items in plain view may be seized, areas that could potentially hide weapons may also be searched. With probable cause, police officers may search any area in the vehicle. However, they may not extend the search to the vehicle's passengers without probable cause to search those passengers or consent from the passengers to search their persons or effects.

The officers will say that the dog's actions gave them probable cause. However, all you had to do was provide your identification and thats it. You did not have to answer any of their questions other than if you are a citizen or not.

If you decide that you dont want to talk to officers (and most of the time you shouldnt) be polite, and say "I respectfully refuse to answer any questions. Am I being detained? Am I free to go?" As long as you werent doing anything wrong, cops figure out quickly that you know your rights and that fishing for something to charge you with isnt going to get them anything, and that you dont care to stay around and carry on a casual conversation with them.

There's a 100 mile "constitution free zone" now. Border patrol can search you anytime anywhere within the 100 mile zone around the border.

2/3rds of the US population lives in that zone.

I'm not scared of dogs but even you would have tripped with that Nazi mutt barking at you. I did call them and made a report about the dog getting in my face without the Nazi handler doing anything about it. It was the first thing I did once I was let go.

First of all you are full of shit..now that that is out of the way.
Border Patrol check points are nothing new to border areas, we have had them for DECADES.
I have been thru them literally hundreds of times, out of those hundreds of times I have had countless dogs run around the vehicle and the handlers have been nothing but professional, it takes about 20 seconds and then they wave you through...
Do they sometimes pull out random or suspicious vehicles for secondary checks where they search your vehicle and ask you additional questions? yes they do...just as they should. They have a job to do and these checkpoints find tons of drugs, stolen vehicles, thousands of illegal aliens and numerous wanted fugitives.
EVERYONE who lives in the border areas knows the checkpoints are out there and know they will have to deal with them if they choose to travel beyond whatever distance they happen to be on a particular roadway...some are very close, like 20 miles from the border, others are about 80 miles away..its just a matter of logistics determining the placement to best serve the area without adding more checkpoint stations than necessary.
It's really no big deal...and certainly OLD NEWS.

Okay, now I have been to Sierra Vista. I have stories involving women, drinking, cops and judges. You were not "hundreds of miles from the border."

They have a big problem with illegals and smuggling around there. They [used to anyway] have blimps with cameras all over the place. By your own admission you were in the middle of nowhere. Exactly where smugglers like to travel.

You also admitted the dog started barking at you. They don't usually do that, so it is natural that they are going to look at you closer.

Well I thought I was a hundred miles from the border. It wasn't until I put the two cities in Google and saw it was only 60 miles from the border. But that doesn't take away from me not enjoying my one on one time with that Nazi dog.

I guess they can hassle me all they want now because of the constitution free zone. I had never heard of that. Makes me sick. Slowly but surely chipping away at our rights in the name of security.

They still have the blimps. And now they even fly drones. Just like in Afghanistan. I'm sure within a few years they'll have some reason to start arming those drones.

I have to go back there tomorrow... This time my window isn't going down.

People need to understand that talking to the police is NEVER in their best interest. Police are looking for anything, any reason, any possible way they can cite you... or arrest you. All you are is a piece of meat to them, something that gets them kudos from their boss.

To them, you're a trophy. A drunk driver. A criminal. A drug abuser. A rapist. A burglary suspect. They look for ANYTHING that they can pin on you, accuse you of, and bring you in for. With the police, it's NOT a matter of "protecting and serving". All that falls under the category of "presumed guilty until proven innocent", NOT "innocent until proven guilty". They don't give a flying shit if you're not the guy they're looking for. All they have to do is think MAYBE this is the guy. They figure out the details later. They run it by the DA, and see if the DA wants to bring charges. Ever hear of the phrase "throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks"? That's the best summary of what the police are about.

These guys don't proactively fight crime, they passively fight crime.

People need to use their FUCKING brains and NOT talk to the police. People need to get it through their fucking heads that talking to the police for ANY reason will NOT help them. It only gets you closer to being locked up.

YOu should try living abroad and then going back for a few days or weeks.. airport gives you the third degree.

Every time I do they all ask the same thing.. " why do you live in Mexico" Reply: usually gets me sent to secondary but its always the same.. " Because I can "

You were 15 miles from the border in an area where human smuggling, drug smuggling and many other illegal activites are the norm.

Here is a little about that area:

Checkpoints have been around in the southwest for over 30 years

Maybe you should change your perfume?

Was it a Pit Bull?

There was a time when cops were here to protect and serve, still says that on the cop cars in LA, yet they will park down the street from a bar and wait for someone to leave the bar and pull them over for any made up reason they want and check for a dui to make their quota.
Now the Cops are about Harass, Control and profit from

Welcome to Nazi Germany.
This same thing happened to me coming back from Nogales a few years ago. The Border Patrol guy was all serious and said, "The dog doesn't lie, if he says you have drugs, you have drugs."

I was like, "Do you speak dog? All I hear is barking."

They sat us there for 20 minutes poking around the car and trying to get us to admit that we were smoking weed in the car.

That's not a worthwhile debate for me.

I understand border checkpoints, what IS the law on interior boarder checks?

If there is a "constitutional free" 100 mile zone then taking into account the 12 mile territorial waters, I can be stopped anytime within 88 miles of the Florida coast?
