NK says the missiles it has readied have nuclear warheads...

http://www.kcna.co.jp/item/2013/2013...0405-12ee.html

That must be a good enough reason to go in and blow them up - The missiles I mean, not all the Koreans...

Go in now take out their missiles, blow up a couple of strategic bridges and that's it - Game Over.

China will shout a bit but they don't want the Americans to have an excuse to move more military assets in to the region.

I believe if it turns into a war, China will be a threat. Then, we have to worry about Russia too. I feel sorry for the North Korean, South Korean, and any other civilians who may die as a result of a dictator and an opposing government who can't speak and have to resort to violence.

When I see comments on media sites that say things along the lines of, "go in and wipe them out," it makes me shake my head.

That's why I think we should do it now - It could be a surgical hit - If it develops into a war its going to be messy - I think the North Korean people are innocent victims and we should go ahead with that in mind.

Yeah, no

Essentially China is forced to go to war with anyone attacking North Korea to prevent an occupation on their southern border. Think Mexico.
They have um, some pretty fucking mind blowing propaganda to describe their "friendship" ie: defense treaties.
I think they describe them being as close as mouth to teeth.

China will not go to war with the US over NK - That would mean WW3 and China is just starting to enjoy itself - Its not going to commit suicide now...

There might be some very angry words but they would see it as 'The USA owes us a big one' - I would guess Africa and its riches would be the price...

So China is rational enough not to respect their defense treaty with NK, but the USA is not rational in respect of defending SK... hummm

They sided with UN security council against NK in the last few weeks. China has global ambitions. Protecting Nk is no longer in their best interest, imo. Personally, I think China, japan, SK and all the surrounding Asian countries want to see this regime come to an end and get on with the monstrous task of rebuilding Korea to at least be a somewhat stable, non-constantly threatening neighbor.

Who knows though. Who knows...

A few hundred tactical strikes on military targets and the government

then just drop a load of food aid in the country.

after a couple of cheese burgers they will realise what they have been missing out on all these years.

I'd have to call bull shit.. They have only done a handful of nuclear tests and there is no way in hell they have managed to make a warhead small enough to fit on a missile. Not at least by themselves.

The only way this could be remotely true, is if they managed to "buy" them from somewhere.. Like perhaps when the Soviet Union collapsed.

At best if that's the case it would just be a small warhead and while it could be a serious threat to a highly populated city it wouldn't' be able to destroy a country for example.

You can play around with this map..

http://www.nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/

and get an idea of how small the damage radius is for even the largest nukes. Meaning anything NK could do wouldn't be much the risk out side the actual target zone. The danger would come from how far things escalated when we hit them back, because we could very well wipe NK off the map along with the rest of the planet and of course you never know what China would do if we hit NK with nukes after being attacked.

That's what I would think as a logical solution. China has far too much to lose with western trading partners to fuck it up over NK. Added to this, the last thing China will want is the US, Sk and UN forces in their back yard if NK launches an attack, specially with any sort of nukes involved because China knows once that line is drawn, we will hit back.

It is not odd at all. The media mentions it daily, it's just not the main focus of the news. Because NK first of all, isn't going to do a damn thing - and second of all they are surrounded by countries that would stomp their ass if they did try anything. SK+US to the south, Japan+US to the east, China to the west and north.

It might be news to you guys because there is a crazy guy threatening the region with nuclear war, but that is news to you simply because of precedence. No mater how full of it the guy may be, threatening nuclear war in your region has to be in the news. For the majority of Americans, North Korea is the crazy guy on the street corner always yelling at people. We've had so many years and generations of family that have lived and served in SK that we all know what it is. Every couple of months, they're going to start babbling about how they're going to destroy the west and blah blah blah blah. If NK wasn't threatening us it would be weird. But NK threatening the region to us is adorable.

That sucks for you to have a crazy guy threatening everyone in the area with nuclear war, but for us it's the same old crazy guy doing the same old thing 4,000 miles away.

North Korea understands that for everyone one nuke they have, the US has a nuclear sub with a dozen nukes on it lurking off of their shores....

I mean, they have one or two nukes... And we have ten thousand.

If a nuclear war breaks out right next to China.... China might just attack North Korea for being so utter stupid. China does not want a nuclear war right off it's coast.

Not really, Seoul is 30km away from NK border - you don't need bridges to demolish the city.

I wouldn't be surprised if China has people there to find out what threats they're going to make this month, and then sends out a report to all the surrounding countries "OK, this month they're going to say the west is out of control and they will threaten them XYZ".

Honestly though, them threatening nuclear war is going to cause so much instability in the region China just might eventually step in and put a stop to it. "Listen, the nuclear shit is too far, knock it off. We will fuck your shit up if you keep threatening nuclear war a couple hundred miles off our shores".

They are quiet about it because the US are trying not to provoke more escalations from NK. This was in the US media yesterday. Basically they are not backing down nor prodding NK anymore.

Nuclear war?

That is exactly what I'm talking about. While Americans who have never dealt with the son say he is a crazy man on the street yelling at clouds with no chance of hitting the USA with a nuke, the other side of the world is worried about North Korea's super EMP technology that could be detonated in the atmosphere and knock out the power to most of the USA and other places as well. No nukes needed.

So I have to wonder why this (non-nuke threat) is not being discussed in the western media if it is such a concern for Asia? After all, the target is the USA / South Korea and their EMP could knock out power in both places with ease. North Korea already lives in the dark so it's not like it will be a big deal for them. If they can knock out half or more of the US power grid with an atmospheric EMP detonation, I would think that would be something of great concern for you guys on the other side of the pond. Guess not.

Hopefully the son is as crazy as the dad and he is just yelling in the street. No one has had to deal with him yet so I think it's pretty premature to paint him to be the same person as his father. If he's not blowing hot air, well, I hope we all enjoy living like the Amish.

man this is being blown out of proportion so much just like every other US reporting on anything..."Saddams WMD" "Irans WMD" "Communism" "terrorism"...

reality: north korea buys 30-40 year old army equipment from serbia, you are in as much danger from them as you are from saddams WMD

That would make sense.

China don't want nuclear war anywhere in the world - The same as everyone else - Its crazy and as I said before they are just starting to get used to the good things in life - China does not want NK pissing on its parade.....

If it is true that NK does have a super EMP weapon the nuclear explosion would not have to be very big

Apparently, one of the signatures of a Super-EMP weapon is that it has a very low explosive yield, just several kilotons because the weapon is converting the energy of the nuclear warhead into gamma rays.

In 2004, the Russian generals told the EMP Commission that North Korea was getting help developing a Super-EMP nuclear weapon from contractors from Russia, China, Pakistan and elsewhere, and could probably test such a weapon “in a few years.” A few years later, in 2006, North Korea tested its mysterious “nuclear device” that produced an explosive yield of only several kilotons, and so was derided by the Western press as a failure–but hailed as a success by North Korea.

In 2012, a military commentator for the People’s Republic of China told a Hong Kong journal that North Korea has Super-EMP nuclear warheads.

One nuclear EMP warhead attack could collapse the national electric grid and other critical infrastructures–communications, transportation, banking and finance, food and water–that sustain modern civilization and the lives of millions.

A Super-EMP attack on the U.S. would cause much more damage than a primitive nuclear weapon, and will likely result in catastrophic consequences that will be irreversible. A Super-EMP attack would inflict maximum damage and virtually ensure a world without America.

Russia has something called the Fractional Orbital Bombardment System (FOBS), that would use an ICBM like a Space Launch Vehicle to put a nuclear warhead into orbit, like a satellite. They have apparently shared this with North Korea. Instead of using the ICBM to lob a warhead on a more accurate arcing ballistic trajectory, the FOBS would loft the warhead into a partial orbit. FOBS could reach any nation or threaten any target anywhere on earth.

The missile test in December 2012, was actually a FOBS test.

Thus, North Korea already possesses an ICBM and poses a mortal nuclear threat to the United States, and to all nations on Earth–right now.

North Korea, during the successful test of its ICBM on December 12, 2012, orbited a satellite weighing 100 kilograms (about 200 pounds). One design of a Super-EMP warhead would be a modified neutron bomb, an Enhanced Radiation Warhead (ERW) because it produces not only many neutrons but also many gamma rays. Gamma rays cause the EMP effect. The EMP field is so large that detonating anywhere over the U.S. would have catastrophic consequences.

North Korea orbited its satellite around the Earth at an altitude of about 500 kilometers. The trajectory of North Korea’s satellite is no accident–they deliberately aimed for and achieved this orbit and altitude, as announced before their launch.

An ideal altitude for making an EMP attack that places the field over the entire lower 48 United States is… wait for it… 500km.

The primary purpose of FOBS is a surprise attack. The first warning of the attack would be ‘lights out’. North Korea and Iran have made clear in their threats that they wish to take down the United States. They perceive themselves to be at war with the U.S. and would like nothing more than to destroy the largest and most successful society on Earth.

NK people just want food, but that's not what the NK govt wants. NK govt wants to take over SK.

When aid was flowing into NK the govt was selling the food on the black market, not giving it to it's people.

Why does this feel like a deja vous?

The only thing missing in this story is the buzz phrase "weapons of mass destruction". Sounds like a planted and fictional excuse - much like the "alleged WMDs" in Iraq before the 'shock & awe'.

I'm all in favor of a tactical/surgical conventional strike on NK to take out missiles that might potentially pose a threat - as long as its not a fictional scare tactic planted in the media by the U.S. gov't.

I found this interesting:

Quote:
In July 1962, a 1.44 megaton (≈ 6.0 PJ) United States nuclear test in space, 400 kilometres (250 mi) above the mid-Pacific Ocean, called the Starfish Prime test, demonstrated to nuclear scientists that the magnitude and effects of a high-altitude nuclear explosion were much larger than had been previously calculated. Starfish Prime also made those effects known to the public by causing electrical damage in Hawaii, about 1,445 kilometres (898 mi) away from the detonation point, knocking out about 300 streetlights, setting off numerous burglar alarms and damaging a telephone company microwave link.[7]

Starfish Prime was the first successful test in the series of United States high-altitude nuclear tests in 1962 known as Operation Fishbowl. The subsequent Operation Fishbowl tests gathered more data on the high-altitude EMP phenomenon.

The Bluegill Triple Prime and Kingfish high-altitude nuclear tests of October and November 1962 in Operation Fishbowl finally provided electromagnetic pulse data that was clear enough to enable physicists to accurately identify the physical mechanisms that were producing the electromagnetic pulses.[8]

The EMP damage of the Starfish Prime test was quickly repaired because of the ruggedness (compared to today)[9] of the electrical and electronic infrastructure of Hawaii in 1962.

The relatively small magnitude of the Starfish Prime EMP in Hawaii (about 5600 volts/metre) and the relatively small amount of damage done (for example, only 1 to 3 percent of streetlights extinguished)[10] led some scientists to believe, in the early days of EMP research, that the problem might not be as significant as was later realized. Newer calculations[9] showed that if the Starfish Prime warhead had been detonated over the northern continental United States, the magnitude of the EMP would have been much larger (22 to 30 kilovolts/metre) because of the greater strength of the Earth's magnetic field over the United States, as well as the different orientation of the Earth's magnetic field at high latitudes. These new calculations, combined with the accelerating reliance on EMP-sensitive microelectronics, heightened awareness that the EMP threat could be a significant problem.

They can't reach the United States...

Playing devil's advocate - what if we're wrong? Not saying they can...but what if they can launch a sub-orbital rocket with an EMP warhead?

Then you can bet the rest of the free world with anything bigger than a hand gun will reign hell upon them. Markets are too connected. An EMP would send the world that matters back to the dark ages. Payback would be total annihilation. However, with US delaying a test missile launch I think things are calming down.

I think pigboy is just trying to do what he does to his own people, torture and terrorize, to force them to submit to his regime.

Yup, the world would go into melt down without the US. The biggest emerging countries rely on our consumerism far too much. The markets are now truly global and the biggest countries in the world are all reliant on one another. Chine would be devastated without us, and we would be devastated without china.

I think a lot of people also forget the point you made. While NK might be making outrageous claims and threats to other countries, that hot air isn't meant for people outside the country. NK might be discussing nukes, and the news might be reporting it. But that rhetoric is meant for the citizens of NK.
