Kombucha Tea "Miracle Health Drug/Food"

Does anyone drink Kombucha tea? Information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kombucha

There seems to be a lot of ridiculous health claims of drinking this stuff...
1) Repairs organ damage caused by chemicals
2) Improves digestion and manages weight
3) Alleviates joint pain and rebuilds joint tissue
4) Homeopathic "cure" for cancer
5) Energizes mind and body
6) Enhances mood
7) Historically has been used to cure heartburn, upset stomach, and other minor illnesses

I bought a bottle from Whole Foods yesterday, It's actually decent tasting... I thought it tasted like a lightly carbonated tea with a hint of root beer like flavor. I did not wake up feeling like superman however I may continue to drink it regularly by brewing my own just to see if there's any effect long term from drinking it regularly.

This stuff is really good for you. Wife drinks it every day or so.
I know for a fact that it is good for kidney stones, it breaks them down and it makes them smaller.

The best way (cheapest too) is to get a SCOBY (read wiki about what this is) and do your own. Once you have the "Mother" SCOBY all you need is your preferred tea and the know how of what to do to.

I paid like $3.50 for a bottle at whole foods. They said you can make a gallon for $2 (the cost of tea and sugar basically). And the scoby lasts forever since it splits and creates new ones almost every batch. I wonder if I can grow a scoby if I leave a store bought bottle out for a few weeks or if I'll have to order a dehydrated one from that site.

Kombu kelp is used all through Asian for a lot of things. Didn't they originally extract MSG from it too in the 1920's? Found umami with it and whatnot.

you will get to keep pretty much all of the liquid you pour in just work out how many glasses you need and see how much will fit in your specific jar...

i got an old lady to make it for me and for her I would buy everything and she would make it because she was retired and bored out of her skull...

i cant say I have felt any positive benefits from it...but thats just me...

try "aloe vera king drink" i honestly feel it work I drink one bottle 1.5 liters per day...its made in korea

yeah cure is definitely the wrong word there..


there are a lot of foods and teas that help PREVENT some forms of cancers though. the list on this one reads almost identical to green tea btw.

YEP, you can do it way cheap. Don't sugar it down too much you'll ruin it.

I heard that its mostly sugar -- although it may be part of the process of creating the tea.

Ya, the sugar is apart of the fermentation process. The longer you let it brew and ferment the less sugary it will be. It's rather weird having a living bacteria float around in your tea while it ferments and grows...

Water is a chemical. Oxygen is a chemical. Kombucha Tea is made up of several chemicals.

I wish people would stop using the 'word' chemical. It's so saddening.

I don't know if I believe all of the health benefits of it, but I like it as an all natural energy drink rather than chugging Rockstar or Monster. There's a gingerberry kombucha that I love.

I don't know this specific product but when people start talking about homeopathic stuff you know there is at least some bullshit involved.

The point of my post was to alert those interested to do some research on the products and ingredients they are interested in. It was revealed a couple years back that koreans were exporting "pot stickers" comprised of garbage. They've also been known to use cardboard and other refuse in exported foods. I believe the US or Japan caught that.

A little sugar, a little caffeine goes a long way to make one feel good.

if you like it and the tumors are under control, enjoy it.

isolated incidents...south korea is technologically just as developed as the USA...you can find plenty of articles like this about US producers not meeting norms or flat out braking them, it does not mean the other 99% are producing sub standard...

the juice is really really good...there is not one single person who has tried it and is not addicted...the white grape-aloe flavor chilled in the fridge will leave you in tears of joy and confusion...you will faint, but whilst you fall to the ground, you will be gently caught and lowered to the ground by the memory of its immaculate flavor

you will move to south korea because its cheaper there
