Internet addiction...
I started thinking I was only addicted to checking my stats frequently.
But then realized it's much more than that. The whole list of 20+ sites I feel like I need to visit daily. (including this one) It's true those articles out there.... our brains are wired on little Highs and Lows these days from text messages, facebook, IM , twitter, or whatever else. I also think it's partly to blame for the recent heroin epidemic... Everybody thinks their a special little superstar on their Facebook or whatever.... and then the highs and lows from 'information' wire the brain almost like a crack addict.....when they don't get those Highs artificially. (txt messages, facebook, long time without sex, etc) They need to substitute with something that'll directly give them their fix. The H epidemic has been growing steadily worse over the last 10 years...mostly during our internet revolution. Before the internet, our brains weren't wired from these constant highs and lows from information. Now it almost seems like parents are raising their kids to be a e-crack addict. They used to play outside to exert all that built up mental stress....now their mommys and daddys buy them an iPad....and then blame the kid for their reclusiveness for not leaving the house.... yup the parents are to blame why their kids are on anti-depressants. Shouldn't of got them that iPad, 360, and PS3... 70% Americans are on prescriptions... think about it. Just the thought of going back to the 70's....feels like a vacation. thoughts, and how messed is ur online addiction ? |

honestly though, mom's these days have sooo much on their plate. Guys cheating, economic issues , kids growing up in an ADHD society , more kids growing up with disabilities, etc. when a kid has a permanent disability....a lot of times, the guy leaves her..then she's left with the tremendous burden raising a disabled kid on her own. back to stats addiction really quick - the part at which I stopped leaving the house.....was when Google Analytics introduced the real-time live stuff. (ok...not really...but u know what I mean) |

There is no such thing as an "Internet addiction"
or a porn addiction or a gambling addiction these are compulsions or obsession or nboth but not an addiction heroin, caffeine, nicotine these are addictions, they have physical withdrawal symptoms that are real not imagined calling everything an addiction is a fucking cop out attempt to attach a pharmacological cause for a compulsive behavior tell a former heroin addict or cigarette smoker how tough your fucking internet addiction is...jesus what a bunch of fucking pussies we have become.

The increase in heroin usage is due to quite a few things, but most notably: 1.) The over prescribed amount of opiates and subsequent change in OxyCotin and other opiate formulas to make it less addictive, has led to people turning to Heroin to fill their opiate needs. 2.) The purity and availability of the heroin on the market right now has led to it being highly addictive and harder to get off. The same kind of usage spikes in usage came with crystal meth depending on the the reduction of it into the country and laws (supply / demand) and the changes in purity from different sources. Canada, mexico, super chemical labs vs bathroom labs from ephidrine pills.. For future reference, instead of trying to come up with absurd correlations to explain things..that only serve to make you look stupid, use some of your internet addiction times to actually read some educated and published literature on the subject matter. It's not a great mystery that needs to be solved or theorized. |

Just because it's cheaper, and higher purity is making people completely lose their will and go on a drug that practically takes their soul away ? o.....k. your reasoning is just as asinine. "Oxycontin isn't giving me enough....so pass over the H." The internet is to blame for low self-esteem and this overall junky mentality people are growing into these days. |

funny people. generations are a product of their environments! congrats on trashing people because they have way more options, time & credit to fuck up their lives. Had the world war 2 generation grew up with hippies for parents, 200 channels of cable TV & mcdonalds on every block, they woulda turned out exactly like us.
& everybody would be wearing funny little mustaches. ![]() |

What's the difference between an addiction and something you like doing?
We like to do the things we like to do. I have a friend of mine who likes camping and takes it to the extreme. He's got a jeep, and spends his weekend at a lake in a tent fishing, hunting, and four wheeling. He spends a lot of money and time on it. Nothing wrong with that; He's doing something he enjoys. Whatever.

Anybody close to it can tell you that Oxys are a huge reason that heroin is rebounding....the high is similar and heroin is cheaper.
The strip club in dayton taught me that....heroin is huge in Dayton OH for that reason. its fact...ask any cop doctor dea guy or rehab admin

For example. A woman I know was addicted to World of Warcraft and it cost her a marriage and nearly her job. It started out just as something she enjoyed doing. She would play after work or on the weekends etc. Then it got worse. She started playing more and more. A couple of times she forgot to pick her kid up from their sports practices then one day her computer broke. She called another friend of mine who builds computers and he told her that he would come over that Saturday to check it out. He thought it was either a memory problem or possibly a hard drive issue. Whichever it was he could fix it that day. The computer broke on a Thursday afternoon. She couldn't wait two days to get it fixed so she went to Wal Mart and spent $1400 on a new computer, brought it home and back then then game took a few hours to install so by the time she had it all installed it was too late to play anyway. When her husband found out he was not happy and forced her to take it back. They had a big fight about it, but by then the old one was fixed so she took the new one back. A few months later she was so bad that she would come home from work, sit down and play until she was ready to pass out then go to bed. Everything involving the family took place while she was on a short break for a few minutes in the game. One afternoon she came home and found the computer was gone. Her husband and taken it and hid it. She flipped out, a fight started and a week later they separated. As they were going through a divorce she started calling in sick to stay home and play and she would stay up so late that she would oversleep and be late. She was missing enough work that she was falling behind on her bills. Eventually her friends and family pulled a full on intervention with her. When she heard her kids tell her the game was more important to her than they were and her boss told her he was right on the verge of firing her she finally realized she had a problem and quit. |

Muscle spasms in the legs which cause them to kick. if not SHE WASNT A FUCKING ADDICT..... She was just a degenerate world of warcraft player You can define addiction anyway you like and I can tell you the sky is rose colored...it dont make either of us right

They've already done studies where people do start exhibiting withdrawal symptoms when the internet is taken away from them. therefore it is an addiction. How about the thought of no internet for all you guys for the next 7 days...nothing at all, not even text messages. Could you do it ? Most couldn't. Most of us are oblivious and in denial. |

It sounds like he still has a job, likely has a pretty normal social life and so on. To me the signs of trouble are things like it interfering with their work, it causing problems with their family life. If they regularly blow of other things that they used to do in order to do this then it is signs of trouble. If your friend suddenly got fired from his job because he was missing work in order to work on his cars or he started spending so much on his cars that he was up this his eyes in debt and losing everything else you might consider it a problem. |

I like this definition: persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful. I think some people have an addictive personality. This woman has one. Before playing WOW she was into scrap booking. She couldn't just do it casually. She ended up with an entire room in their house dedicated to it. She spent thousands of dollars on ebay buying scrap booking and it caused problems with her family. She also does it with food. She is overweight and eats a lot of junk food even though she knows it is not good for her. Recently she had a mild heart attack, had to have a stent put in the vein and told she needed to eat better and lose weight. She isn't she is doing just as she did before. For some people I think there is a deeper psychological reason for these things. It isn't a physical need so much as it is then doing these things to fill some kind of void or need in their life that for some reason they can't seem to fill elsewhere. |
