Epoch, CCBill or Netbilling?

If you could only choose one which would it be and why? Processing needed for paysites, VOD chip purchases and adult novelty items.

Netbilling does not fit in that group. Not because anything is wrong with them, but because it's a different structure. You might want to look into that more before making a decision.

I suppose I should have titled it "Epoch, CCBill or Merchant Account"

I would use all three. Can't imagine where you could only use one.

Agreed with Rochard - You really need to cascade to optimize and protect yourself, never have your eggs in one basket.

I also would never recommend using just one processor, but if you really can only have one, from that list, epoch are for me the clear winners as they allow you to offer by far the widest range of payment options to customers.

I agree with you Sean. My only caveat being to make sure your biggest basket belongs to you and not someone else.

One thing to consider... if you do have to pay the high risk fee you mine as well go with Netbilling, because that fee is suppose to be *PER* merchant. Meaning, you do not pay epoch again, you do not pay ccbill again, etc. etc. and you can still use them. So if somehow you conclude Epoch is best for you... you pay whatever high risk fee, then if you wanted to go netbilling you'd have to pay it again (probably), same with ccbill.

Maybe you are lucky and can get that fee waived all together.

If you set your scrub low on your MID I don't really see the point of sending to a third party. To each his own. I would rather open another MID to spread money around.

^reference to what I said:

If you have a merchant account, you can use as many backups as you want to and only pay the fees once.

In this post Mitch was referring to each processor not account. You will need to pay the HR fee per merchant account and IPSP account. He was talking about using a single merchant account with different payment gateways.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

So, for instance, fee paid for merchant account could use ecsuites for payment gateway (which is basically CCBill) and not pay the fee again, correct?

Doesn't epoch work as a payment gateway (processor) as well? I see no reason, at all, that you would have a merchant account and then want an IPSP as well. There is only 2 reasons to cascade, to spread out money or hope that first denial turns into a successful transaction. And you obviously would want that cascade to go to another processor using a different bank. All of that can be accomplished by using different *payment gateways* which hopefully uses a different bank, and only pay the fee associated with the merchant account.

The only reasons people talk about using CCBill, then cascading to Epoch, or wherever, is what I mentioned above. I think it is important people realize the difference between an IPSP and simply a billing processor. Because bottom line, they do not need IPSP accounts to cascade and throw money around using different banks.

She didn't email me about that topic, but I am not really concerned about what company performs what function in the billing process. I just think it is important to note that you do not need to pay a yearly high risk fee simply to cascade to another solution.

p.s. do you have at least 2 banks for US customers to use in a cascade? Can a US customer billing say 5K per month cascade to an overseas bank?

Hi,

Yes we work with a few US banks. A small client will not be able to get an offshore high risk merchant account.
