my dog got trapped in the kitchen all night

no shit...usually when I go to bed the dog stays up for a bit doing 'dog stuff' whatever that might be.... then the guy will wonder in and hit the sack.... this time while he was in the kitchen the kitchen door closed about 2 inches and the dog got stuck because he won't go though a door unless it's wide open of I take him though.... when I got up this morn he wasn't in my room and I thought WTF??? then I found him sitting in the kitchen looking embarrassed as hell

Ugh! I would never go to bed without my dog laying right next to me. We even share the same pillow.

Your poor doggie. Mine are all nosy and know exactly how to open a cracked door..though sometimes in trying to open it they do push it closed.

I also find it a little odd that your kitchen has doors.

Mine can even open doors those open towards it. Although it is more about persistence than making precision moves. It will just keep pawing the door handle until it opens.

And as I live in Europe, we have handles, not knobs.

So 3600 sq foot, 5 bedrooms 2 bathrooms and 10 acres - and 8k cheaper per month. I think I'll keep mine.

The only thing I care about entertaining is my animals. When I have a party my friends bring their tents and whole family and sleep over on the back corner of my property =)

There isn't a question to be settled really; Dogs are unquestionably smarter than cats.

actually both cats and dogs have their strengths and weaknesses and there are already huge differences between different breeds within their own kind - think border collie vs. chihuahua

Sure. I work with hundreds of German Shepherds because I do helper work for Schutzhund (being German I assume you know what this sport is) and they are very, very, very smart. Much more so than your average pet dog.

Still though, we have hunting dogs, seeing eye dogs, drug detection dogs, therapy dogs, assistance dogs, etc. Many different breeds are used.

On the other hand, no cats have "jobs". I've heard some people try to suggest that this is because cats are much smarter than dogs and so they just refuse to be taught menial chores. Of course this is ridiculous because using this logic cats would be smarter than humans but not as smart as rocks.

i usually go with this

but no doubt about it, trying to train a cat is a huge waste of time

but that's also the result from an evolutionary process, who knows what would have happened if man chose a cat as companion 10,000 years ago

try training a wild wolf and let me know how that works out

Dogs are smarter than cats because dogs are herd animals, or as used with wolves; pack animals. That makes the difference; all the smartest animals in this planet are herd animals. In evolution towards intelligence; nothing makes it better than figuring out what the guy next to you mumbles.

Thats a LOT of answer for a simple question/statement about doors on your kitchen.

I am thinking your compensating for something with such a LARGE answer to such a tiny question...
