Life exists other than on our planet

Seems we now have proof life exists off of planet earth... We've found water and oxygen... And now a fossil on Mars:

Scientist claims to spot insects on Mars, but I think they're just rocks

we'll know in two or three years - this professor is both highly respected and somewhat kooky.

but i find the idea that in an indefinite universe we should be the only planet with any form of life a bit arrogant

Or perhaps accidental, what if life as we know it is a rare species on a vast, dead universe??

Actually it was found there years ago. Now I won't be surprised if they will find a live there. Something like Mycoplasma. Why not if it was sent there by our rovers?

kind of unlikely I'd say if the crucial elements like hydrogen, oxygen etc also exist on other planets. Which we do know by now.

it won't change anything though since whatever life out there exists, it's too far away for todays technology to get in touch

it would be nice to know though - and a blow to the creationists who blab about god burying dinosaur bones

then again it would be a first that religious nutjobs change their opinion based on science

There probably is life, but since several things that were key to our self knowledge only developed once (no cell without a genetic code, no bacterium derived from a eukaryote can be found today, sex) meaning our type of life is just lucky and we have a very unique planet. Think about it, mating developed BEFORE multicell organisms!

As our planet was formed from alien matter it would be unlikely that life didn't exist elsewhere.

The life does exist in the outer space of course. For example all those epidemics down the river after yet another meteor hits the Earth.

do you really believe that in a time where people still believe in a flat earth you could convince the creationists that they are brain damaged?

"Lets say we have an ant hill in the middle of the forest. And right next to the ant hill, they’re building a ten-lane super-highway. And the question is “Would the ants be able to understand what a ten-lane super-highway is? Would the ants be able to understand the technology and the intentions of the beings building the highway next to them?"

Stars come and go, there are emissions of radiation coming from billion light years, every 100,000 years or so, and we cannot know what it's all about.

We are the ants.

Who cares?

Really what effect does it have on your lives if life exists on other planets? You won't visit them, they won't visit us and the problems we have on Earth won't get solved by them.

And this isn't proof of anything but an out of focus image.

Thirst for knowledge is part of our human evolution. But there are people who simply claim without knowing. You don't differ from the creationists there.

I know one thing for sure. That if you can't state your opinion or thoughts on a subject without insulting, condescending and being flat out rude than you aren't going to convince anything to anyone ever...

What's the point of knowing shit if nobody will ever listen to you?

first you must assume that 'other life' will have the same subjective quantum reality that we experience and that we experience the same quantum super position as 'other life' which might not be the case. other life might not present like star trek or lost in space

How much is being spent on searching for something that so far we've found nothing?

So let's assume they find some place that life exists, we can't reach it, it can't reach us and it has zero effect on our lives on Earth.

Of course if it can reach us, it would be best to remain hidden as their technology will be so far advanced chances are they want something from us. Exploration is driven by exploitation.

The problems we have on Earth are over population, over exploitation of resources, climate change, pollution, debt and finding a bug in outer space that does nothing will for us, does not solve them.

In before Paul Markham tells NASA and the scientific community that they are losers, they don't know anything about cameras (as evidenced by the blurry photo), the insects, fossils and rocks would be more valuable and sell better if they weren't free and he's been doing what they are doing since before they were born.

edit: I'm late.

So what good have all those discoveries done for you on anyone else on Earth?

I'm sure you understand I have better things to do with my time than explain to you how space exploration has helped and continues to advance health/medicine, transportation, public safety, consumer goods, energy/environment, IT, industrial productivity, efficiency and so forth and so on...

Just imagine as if human race lived on Mars billion years ago. And they polluted it as much as we are polluting Earth now. And the planet was in a bad state. So they decided to send a capsule with two humans called Adam and Eva to populate Earth
