I would never dream of using a counter from some company like sextracker

It's very simple to build a counter in PHP yourself .. I've made my own one, hosted on a small server, counting 800.000 hits a day with no problems.. the counter itself is invisible on the page..

no news here. mtree / fci dialer has been operating like that for years outside the U.S. It's all free to the end user until he takes it in the ass. Scortched earth policies fuck up the market for the rest of us. Actually, it was worse in the past. They used to change the dial up modem settings of the end user to their dialer.

Been there, done that... What it basically comes down to every time is that they don't want to change or really don't see the problem. I was in pretty long e-mail correspondense with 'em, which was great, I know 'em from the early days and we did go back and forth a lot on some changes on their counter to perfect it. The counter is not the problem, that runs like clockwork, it's the ads behind the counter and the nature of the ads themselves (being blind and all)

Unfortunate I don't go 'back'... instead I go to http://www.mtreexxx.net/cpd/?cat=5&w...s=1+317632+the and get another dialer load. I close the dialer and check the text. 'More Free XXX Movies' linking directly to the dialer, 'Free XXX Movie Archives' linking directly to the dialer, 'Free XXX Image Archives' linking directly to the dialer. The site is titled 'Today's FREE XXX DOWNLOADS'... well... every single link on that site goes direcly to a dialer which is far from FREE... Might even be a nice case for the FTC to check out...

By now I know clicking 'back' doesn't work (ok, to make the story complete I did try more than once, came across more 'free download'-promises that linked straight to the dialer). I close the window...

I get http://www.freepicturepage.com/index.html pop up... It's a TGP, or at least it's supposed to look like that. On top of the site are blind thumbs to downloaddollars.com which start loading a dialer once you click 'em. And then, after the trades, the TGP starts...

If this is how they want to do business, fine, and I must admit that being on SexTracker is a good option for me to show advertisers the kind of traffic we draw. I know it has been good for my business. I know I send a little under 2000 people a day to that page and I have extra text on there to tell people sextracker is a counter. On other sites they're promoted with blind links like the one of top of this header.

I'm considering (as I did before) to no longer allow sextracker on galleries posted on The Hun. Surfers are tricked into installing and running dialers. Dialers are not a problem, as long as it's clear to the consumer what it is and that it's definately NOT free. These tactics are definately a blunt attempt to mislead consumers, which is why I don't want to link to it... Also, the fact that people are trapped and as a bonus a popup to another TGP is shown makes me post this here.

Now, some will be temped to say 'take this up with SexTracker'... I did. More than once. With obviously no result. I will have to take stronger measures. If there are good counters out there that don't have these tricks behind 'em let me know here, and I'll forward people that submit a sextracker counter on a gallery to a page with alternatives. I can not accept this much longer. It goes against pretty much everything The Hun stands for.

Although I doubt highly you would, but if you want to talk about exactly what you are looking for please hit me up and we will obviously take your opinion and suggestions and implement them. Yupz, some of the major linklists started banning any kind of visible counter in the last weeks. They all swear with server stats (AWstats and so) but somehow these stats don't always give you what theses free counters give you. Like detailed stats per day and so..

Pfff.. I'm just read all the comments about the sextracker and I agree it is lame. Rebuild or redesign it, is no big deal. But the solution you are claiming based on php is probaly much lamer than the sextracker technology. I'm a C and C++ coder and build lots of times small stats collecting programs. If you are working with php.. well.. than you dont have any idea what you are doing. You cant run it all in memory so it has to write his data to disk. That's very expensive and it makes it slow. Do you have a small idea about how much data we are talking. All running and collecting, indexing and publishing on the fly. PHP is maybe nice to build the front end enviroment, not the backend for this large numbers. You have to build a scheduling and collector proces that can run in mem. No diskaccess at all. My advice to anyone who want's to join this technology, let it go. No I dont have a own product, as I told before I'm just a coder and stats programs can you get every were for free on the net.

Obviously you don't know much about PHP

It supports sockets so you can even build your own web server with PHP if you wanted to. This means you can just use memory or shared memory without having to do disk access.

You can even use mysql with this, as it supports HEAP tables which stay resident in memory, so you get to use database features without having to make disk accesses. Indexes and such will make it extremely fast to deal with data.

Alot of people won't wait for the entire page to load (especially if you're on 56k). Hence if the Sextracker button is at the bottom it won't load and count the true amount of hits.

That doesn't make any sense. It isn't that hard to control what loads first. At the very least, why don't you just put it as an image preload in the header?

But seriously, I think the dialer issue is a browser security issue/active-x client side issue. If you set your security higher than default, it should take "no" for an answer. Lower security, it'll basically take your settings as a "yes" before it asks. Kinda sorta..

It helps the counter's accuracy. If you put it down on the bottom, more surfers won't load the page all the way and the counter won't count the hit.

That's the point, when a dialer company make these fishy things with the download windows, without giving to the user the option to say not.. it is when people starts to think bad about the rest of dialr companies..

I've been using http://www.phpee.com/index.php for most of galleries however it never gets past the submission page. I'm not a programmer so I wouldn't know what types of problems it can cause - I just know that it's very very detailed and easy to set up on your own servers - no advertising - no redirect - no bullshit. Perhaps (if you have the time) one of you can look at it and tell me why it is blocked - what is threatening about it?

If you set your security higher than default, it should take "no" for an answer. Lower security, it'll basically take your settings as a "yes" before it asks. Kinda sorta..
