The Dark Knight sucked. Ledger was the BEST joker. His best acting was in Brokeback Mountain, he should have got the Oscar then.

If you watch the Tim Burton Batman now, you realize it's not a great movie. I'm a fan of Burton and Nicholson, and the new versions blow the old out of the water.
But that's just my opinion. |

He will get an oscar for his performance in dark knight. Even if it wasn't an oscar worthy performance, the film association will give it to him just for the sake of his legacy. I think he made a damn good joker. Oscar worthy? Not sure, Jack did a HELL of a job and I don't think he got an oscar. Heath was a good actor though.

Apples and oranges between Jack and Heath on thier portrayal of the Joker. they were 2 Different Writers versions of the joker. Jack played the 70's Style of joker. where heath played the Frank miller Version(personally i like Millers Batman Series better)

Not that this topic hasn't be covered a hundred times before... and thanks for being so original, but let me repost what I had said about this once already....
-------------------- I hated Nicholson's Joker... but people praised him, said his performance could not be improved upon. He was a good actor, but a terrible Joker. It's not his fault though, it's what the movie makers wanted. They did his make up, wrote the words, put him in those clothes. The Joker didn't use knock out gas... he used poison gas. He didn't leave cards that could be analyzed, he left cards that blew up! He didn't trap people to kill them in some contraption.... he shot them between the eyes. He's a serial killer... and what they did to his character for tv and the movies and the even the comics for a while was terrible. But I guess it all came at a time when people didn't want their kids reading about that. It was too..... "dark". |

I don't even know how you can compare the two performances when the only similarity in the characters is the name. Personally I think Ledgers Joker was much closer to what I think the joker should be like were he real. That said, when the first batman came out they were trying to appeal to kids more than anything and therefore needed to have a significantly less sinister and dark joker. The only thing you can really compare between the two is the acting, and in that I believe that Ledger did the better job as Nicholson was much more comical than serious in his portrayal. That however, I think is in large part due to the writing and directing.

Personally, I liked Heath's Joker a whole lot better than Jack's. However they weren't playing the same character; one was in the style of Adam West's goofy foe, while the other was the crazed psychotic who kills Robin in The Killing Joke. I also agree with the above that Heath shouldn't have been a supporting actor in that film; I'm a Bale fan but his work in Dark Knight was pretty poor - I could have watched Heath cause chaos for hours though
