The Target around my area is more expensive for most of the common items that I go there for.

China is a problem for a lot of people/companies/countries. They keep 2 sets of books and basically make no bones about it. One set for officials from foreign countries/corporations, one real set. They employee kids, mostly the "excess" girls. Kinda sick. Check pbs.org and search for "china blue".
They LOVE imported American goods. Even when some parts come from china, cross to the US, product gets finished and assembled in the US, bearing of course the US manufactured label, and then is exported back to china. They eat it right up and pay huge bucks (the non working-poor class of course). Ted Kopell documented this in a series that aired on the discovery channel I believe. Was multi-part series, pretty good.

Tar-jay person myself...havent set foot in a Walmart in years..and that was when we needed light bulbs for the booth at a convention and the only thing open that late was WallyMart...
Target prices are about the same for most things...but i dont even mind spending a bit more just for the cleaniness of the Target near me vs the Walmart....Walmart near me is way way way over crowded with people that look like bottom dwellers and the kids are always running around....plus it scares me to buy meats & veggies at Walmart...sadly i pay more for my foods as i learn what crap ends up in food...damn Whole Paycheck (Whole Foods) and Trader Joes... |

i used to be very anti wal mart too. finally said fuck it i can use the extra cash. i do not shop there for food nor clothing. i will buy things in household, toys, garden center, electronics. and more that likely a couple other areas. i and the wife both price compare on most items. i am pretty sure most would laugh at us for some of the shit we buy or do.
like we will not take store brand soda, but will take store brand items for almost everything else assuming it passes the quality test when we buy 1. there are other exceptions too, like certain name brand items almost always have coupons which make them cheaper. just all that shit takes up so much of your household income that it nuts. we would rather save it instead of spending it on a name that only housegests may see. |

![]() Same here.
I also never shop at Target, KMart, or Sams Club. I simply do not need things in bulk. They would spoil. Nor am I interested in battling a bunch of toothless wonders to save .03 cents on some item I can get up the road, or closer to my house. When I buy clothes, I prefer to spend a few bucks and get stuff that will not fade in two washes, and can last a few years. Typically Polo, Tommy, Nautica, etc.. They just fit and last better. My sister buys the cheap stuff at those stores. She is constantly replacing shirts that bleed, shorts and sweats that shrink, or socks among other things, that start to unravel in a few months. It amazes me that people will drive past 12 stores to go to the north side, or across town for gas, or groceries, then brag about the nickel they saved. ![]() |

to save additional funds we split our membership with another couple we know. sometimes we shop together and will split up the items, like when we buy the entire rib steak loin that we then take out of cryovac, cut into steaks and split them up. we both pay for half of the yearly fee, we both have cards so was can shop on our own, and since i opened the account i got the one that gives yearly cash back rewards which i get to keep 100% of and it counts both our and our friends purchases. something makes me want to talk alot on here. |

walmart is an hour drive away from Whis. this is what i deal with every day: http://www.creeksidemarket.com/
it's great and all (small 'market' feel), but the kinds of deals you get at a walmart or costco simply don't exist here. i like to bitch about it, sorry. |

The closest Wal Mart to me is roughly 20 miles. I have been curious about them and kinda would like to go check one out, but I belong to a union so of course I would hate myself for going.
![]() Here in the SF bay area we have many other opportunities for decent pricing anyway, so I don't really feel the need to get into a Wal Mart store. I certainly do not fault anyone for shopping there. And if you need to, you should shop there happily and proudly. You gotta survive and feed yourself and your family. I suppose some of the other stores are really not much better. It is just that Wal Mart is the biggest and most aggressive at what it does and therefore any effect it has on communities etc. , or the trends that it sets for other businesses to follow have a stronger impact than that of smaller merchants. |

I go to walmart simply because I can go there, buy almost anything I need in the same store, and leave.
The super walmart is about the same distance as the regular walmart but the parking lot is fucking enormous and I always have to park about 1/4 mile away from the entrance and I hate leaving my car that far out. I REFUSE to go there during the day if I have another option. It is like a goddamn freak show in there and I feel super out of place having all my teeth, clean skin, clean clothes, a car that runs, etc. I buy/wear a lot of their clothing because frankly I don't give a shit. I've got a bunch of nice clothes in the closet that I will wear on occasion but most of the time I'm sitting in an office by myself and have little dealings with people that aren't wearing lingerie so what is the point of getting dressed up haha. Never had problems with their socks falling apart. I can afford to never step foot in a Walmart, and I usually don't buy my food there (I shop at Albertsons and buy ZERO of their in-house brand) but when I need socks, underwear, toilet bowl cleaner, bed sheets, a couple DVDs, cat food, motor oil, a flashlight, ammunition, toothpaste, etc I would rather not make 6 trips to specialized stores. |

Until America decides that the playing field needs to be leveled and products sold in American need to be made by American standards, including labor, pay and enviromental standards it will keep on keepin on with or without walmart itself...which will probably never happen anyways since its all about money and not people.

Living in Eastern Europe for 6+ years I really miss the ability to get low priced stuff 24 hours a day with a great selection like you can at Wal Mart. people in the US don't realize what a luxury it is to have such a selection at such low prices.

I just buy bulk socks at Costco. Wear once or twice and throw them away.

Walmart here carries more of the american products food wise so we shop there for food. as fo clothes, Underware and socks come from there as well. Otherwise its the hotel zone for the Polo lacoste and what ever other shops.

Both times I was in Florida for a month I shopped at Wal-Mart. Mainly bought some food items etc like snacky stuff since I was on vacation with friends and we ate out every night. I don't see whats so bad about it? I'd never buy clothes from there since I'm a stylish type of person but anything else sure why not.
