the only thing that can save the porn biz, is a worldwide ban of easy accessible porn.
ie.. governments around the world would declare that all porn should be behind the members area..

We've always believed in "less is more" and grind our teeth releasing FHG's...etc... but the affiliates scream their heads off demanding tons of free content to release to world thinking that's the way to get sales. What we hate is some affiliate post EVERY SINGLE gallery and image we offer to help advertise our sites... these affiliates are fools because why in the hell would anybody buy the site when you can sort thru dozens of free images??

Currently we are setting up a new affiliate program to remove all the affiliates that are dumping our FHG's everywhere for free.

Hell, we've only been online for 2 years, but if you Google "Apple Twins" or "Jolie Twins" there are 100000's of sites featuring free content.

It's our own dam faults for releasing all the free images to affiliates.

You only need 10 images TOPS. When a man sees what he likes, he will buy. If he doesn't like it, throwing 30 galleries at his face won't convince him to buy. It's an impulse purchase.

The entire affiliate set up is wrong and must change.

We WILL be changing ours this month. And, this time, we don't care if people scream because they way they are doing it now, doesn't work.

When you walk into a liquor store, the best porn mags are sealed in plastic. They don't let you look for free.... why?? Cause THEY WON'T BUY THE COW IF THEY CAN GET THE MILK FOR FREE. Duh!!!

I wish women ran the adult market online cause men give it away for free. Women know to make them pay for it.

I disagree somehow on the "cars" subject, since there are several correlations between sex and cars (as a matter of fact, most car marketing revolves around sex).

See, by your own words, any person in the world who likes sex or porn should be able to be a successful adult industry marketer. I hope you will agree that's not the case, very far away from that. let's go further: would you say many of the adult companies closing doors didn't like sex? or they didn't know about adult business? We both know the answer. Yet, they're closing. They had experience, they liked sex, some of them had countless economic resources and hefty budgets, and they're closing. While you are not.

Wouldn't you say that you have some kind of advantage (whether it's by acquired knowledge or experience/intuition) they didn't have? Or maybe they used non-professional "bros", friends or people that simply likes sex?

another example by your own premise: I like computers, I use them everyday, I use search engines to search for data. So that should entitle me to be Google's Marketing Director, after all I like the same things. Yet I've the feeling Google CEO will laugh at me, even thought I'm willing to take the position for 1/4 of what they're paying now.

So no Robbie, you're wrong. You've specific skills and abilities, and you're an exception, not the norm. I'm pretty sure you know a lot of inside information about adult companies, probably more than me, and even though you love to be a nitpicker (like in this thread ) you'll have to agree most of the failures came because of lack of professionalism and wrong human resources

But seriously, what I meant is that a person who is really in this business and can see the big picture AND at the same time be hands on from the ground up can, will, and does run circles around any market specialist who thinks they can come in and show me how to do it.

And no, I'm not talking about the guys who run some of these generic sites or outsource all their shoots and have a dozen or so guys doing everything for them. I'm talking about real porn guys who have a vision and drive.

Now as for those generic sites...I'm afraid they can have as many marketing specialists and affiliate reps and big PPS promos as they want. But FREE is still gonna kill them. They can't sell a paysite that has the entire members area ripped and easy to find on a thousand file sharing sites.

And those guys are starting to drop like flies.

well, you're hitting the nail in the head here. Generic sites or "mainstream porn" are due to a a slow death. Well, some of them will die fast. However, they've the resources to change while they're still on time, and that's something not everybody has. ie, I may know a lot, have great ideas and blah blah blah yet I need to build capital to make it happen. By the time I have the money, that great idea may be outdated or made by someone else. Big companies have the chance to change in days or weeks and make things happen. However, most of them (in adult and non-adult, this is a very common problem) are bound to inertia and very unwilling to change.

Then again, if they could only open their eyes, they could still be the head of the pack rather than dying.

But yes, you're right here, GENERIC/MAINSTREAM/DEPERSONALIZED porn is doomed

Problem is those big companies are inert just as you say.

I can identify a problem and/or a solution and have it up and running in an hour. For those bigger companies where the owner himself isn't up to par and has no skill set...he may NEVER identify a problem or a solution at all. And IF he does, then he puts his "team" to work on it. And maybe a month later they finally get something done.

Meanwhile, guys like me have already moved on to a thousand other things.

A few years back we were like those big companies. Had a big office. 10 different employees each working on their own "department". And everytime I wanted to move quickly on something I had to consult with my two partners and convince them of the reasoning.

That alone could take a week.

I'm so glad to be small and fast now. It's what is keeping me above water in this age of piracy + bad economy.

I hope to NEVER have another partner. And now I only keep two employees and they answer directly to me and do exactly what I tell them when I tell them to do it. All the decisions are mine and mine alone.
