Nothing against FSC or any organization that steps in to help, but your best chance is consulting your lawyers and doing what they tell you.

Actually...Your best chance is consulting an attorney who knows WTF they are talking about. It amazes me how many of the people in this industry use attorneys that are not members of the First Amendment Lawyers Association.

I can think of a couple of attorneys who have given their clients advice that appears to be in direct conflict with 2257. I however am not into naming names. :glugglug

Sorry Eric M. Bernstein but you will not be getting mentioned in this thread.

Oops. Damn it.

I hate it when that happens. :(

Jeffery Douglas (my lawyer) heads up the FSC :)

Webmasters NEED TO BE more proactive. In the last four years we saw a war with Iraq (a stated enemy of the Bush administration) - give Bush and his cronies another 4 years and you will see the War on Porn (a stated enemy of the Bush administration).

Get out and VOTE and if you plan on voting for Bush STAY HOME!

I like Douglas, we use him too :)

Getting out and voting shouldn't really be in reaction to this, as an American, voting is something you should do no matter what!!!

Exactly. This is a weak response. How about file a lawsuit against the gov't to stop implementation?

Those who think voting for Kerry will give online pornographers a pass are IGNORANT.

There is no pro-porn politician ( maybe Clinton! :Graucho ) All politicians will sacrifice this industry if it would mean extra votes.

CDSmith 09-03-2004 12:29 PM

Another good cause webmasters should be joining and backing.

Bookmarked. Will add their link to my resource pages soon. :thumbsup

I'll second that and also add - ignore any fucking lawyers who would sell their mother for some "respect" in the US legal system.

I don't know how often I'll come across "professionals" who are so shit scared of "authorities" - not for their clients, but for their own asses and would not utter "Boo!" to them :-)

Lawyers are "humans" as well and we got the usual "variation" in them - choose one with at least some balls and balance.

Tuna 09-03-2004 12:32 PM

1. I'm sure the FSC is filing a lawsuit.

2. I'm not saying Kerry will "give a pass", but sure as hell won't have Ashhahahahaha as an AG. That's what is most important here.

3. Clinton signed COPA.

Sammy4u 09-03-2004 12:33 PM

I have registered to vote for the first time ever and I plan on doing what I can.

bdld 09-03-2004 12:34 PM

yes i would think so also. i would love to see some of the higher traffic sites trying to encourage their surfers to vote against bush

Jeppe 09-03-2004 12:39 PM

Nice! I have actually been looking for this kind of site. I am considering for once in a lifetime putting up a banner on my site asking people to vote for Kerry...

Could this be something anyone else might be interested in doing? Maybe some designers will make a few banners with some good slogans for a good cause?

dennisthemenace 09-03-2004 12:39 PM

Only problem I see with this is it doesn't list the candidates that would be useful to vote for.

Telling people to vote leaves Bush as an option for them to vote for. More votes for Bush doesn't do doodley squat for the cause.

KMR Stitch 09-03-2004 12:41 PM

Exactly,

The whole thing around this is that Kerry might appoint people who might be less concerned about online porn..

Mike,

Does this do anything for ya?

"Government does not have the authority to tax or regulate the Internet. It shouldn't be in the business of acting as a nanny to censor content. It is best left to private industry."

NPAT for Michael Badnarik, Libertarian candidate

joshuawk 09-03-2004 01:11 PM

presidents are elected by the electoral college no?

what the fuck is voting going to do besides giving the elite
statistics on how to further their massive population control.

its like filling out a fucking survey for a giant corporation so they
can make more money off you.

voting is bullshit.

People might be confused here.

The law might be a little different with special rules with regards to injunctions but normally - a law goes into effort - it is enforced against someone - then you have a basis to go to court to get an injunction - otherwise there is no immediate hardship.
