:stoned We now have prohibition in Czech Republic - no more hard liquor anywhere...

http://rt.com/news/czech-alcohol-pro...poisoning-188/

after 19 people died from methanol poisoning, you now cannot buy anything over 20% anymore - not in supermarkets, not in bars, clubs - nowhere.

the shelves in the supermarkets are empty and last night at the clubs people were drinking wine and beer instead of shots and longdrinks.

i wonder for how long this will go before someone freaks out because he didnt get his vodka

We might have to cancel our flights and gumball rally a bunch of booze to Prague. Could be a lot of money to be made. Slanging bottles of vodka to all the drunks in Prague.

The Czech Republic has prohibited the sale of hard liquor after 19 people died and dozens were poisoned by methanol-laced bootleg vodka and rum.

Ban commercial liquor because of bad bootleg liquor? If no commercial liquor wouldn't there be more bootleg liquor?

The ban covers the sale of any drink containing more than 20 percent alcohol.

If the ban covers liquor with over 20%, what about under 20%?

just cause it comes from the czech government, it must not make sense. it hardly ever does.

but under 20% its mostly wine and beer and thats probably too cheap to bootleg

edit: also if you took all alcohol away from the czech people, you would have a revolution within 48 hours

good advice. now I am on hardcore drinking trip in Moldavia, then going to Ukraine and then I am going back with my fully loaded backpack with hard alcohol and I will be the king of Czech bars again. Well, there is some serious possiblity I could get poisoned here in ex-USSR before arriving back to home, lol

For example, in my country all strong alcohol drinks (more than 5%) can be sold in big shops only, and from 10 AM to 11 PM (in some places to 9 PM) only.

This law doesn't make any sense at all. So, some people got died after drinking bootlegged (ie. homemade) alcohol, so as a response, the government bans all alcohol that comes from factories who are forced to observe strict safety and quality regulations?

So the amount of bootlegged alcohol now skyrockets, causing even more deaths. Who the fuck decided this was a good response?

Yes, why not? As anywhere else. You can do that even in Dubai where any alcohol is officially prohibited. Who cares actually?

but dont tell me there is no possibility how to get around such restriction in Russia and ex-SSSR states....I already now, that i will be able to get hard alcohol in Czech republic at bars where they know me by face....

it makes completly sense as they were copies of some local brands, exactly from factories who observe strict safety and quality(well, not so quality...only some shitty brands were hacked). but heck, i heard here even some story about copy of famous finlandia vodka, which was bought in the supermarket

the prohibition is only temporary, so if the situation is resolved, everything will be back to normal.. this is already a hard hit to the czech economy (tax from alcohol), so it wont last long....

That's not prohibition - they can still sell booze. Just not the stuff that can kill you.

Hmm... What's the problem to buy vodka in a night club or a restaurant in Russia, ex-USSR, Czech Rep. or anywhere else? As I said earlier, you can buy vodka even in Dubai or, say, in Sana in any foreign hotel (e.g. Hilton). How could it be related to the restriction to sell it in the shops (especially street kiosks)?

Well, I will say that I *dont want to die* while I'm in Czech.. lol

Prohibition has different meanings depending what country you are in. In the US, if there was 'prohibition' on something it would mean that it couldn't be bought, sold or in your possession.. See everyone in Czech!

I'd tell you a secret. This rule applies to almost ANY country including the most radical Muslim ones. So I wouldn't worry about "where I get vodka" in the Czech Rep. Don't buy it in these barbarian street kiosks and you'll be fine.

i havent seen any "barbarian street kiosk" here yet - those that i know only sell regular stuff like in the supermarket

and as you can see in the picture i posted, you cannot even buy booze at the supermarket

Course I didn't mean it will last forever. I just was a bit amazed when I was told that vodka was available even in street kiosks in Czechia.

I heard it from Sebastano Perero - the guy who lives in Prague for many years (I believe you know that nickname).

still I don't see the reason for the big hype over this prohibition.. almost 20 people died, they want to find out from where does it comes.. that's all. in times like these every government needs the tax income from products like this, so everyone wants the prohibition to be lifted as soon as possible

20 people dies is a tragedy. But I was wondering about other thing. How is it possible that a strong alcohol is being freely sold in various street kiosks instead of specialized shops?

That's common here in eastern (post-communist EU). You can buy strong alcohol almost anywhere...
