Actually, I think you have a point..

A couple of my customers refused the "protect your paysite from password traders" service for the whopping $10/mo we offer it at, so a posting usually lasts and hour or two before I notice a 20mbit/sec spike and go and kill the fucker.

While it costs them like 50GB in bandwidth (for 2 hours usage. yeesh.), I've noticed in the proceeding week or so memberships for their sites jump considerably.

Go figure.

I think if I owned a paysite, I'd prolly "leak" a couple l/p's around and let them go a little while, and kill 'em. Also prolly make a "fake" membership area that requires a login, but only have it be a bunch of galleries. ;) (I'm sure people have done this shit, I know I'm going to.. fuck it.)

Yah I had the expired password problem as well. These were always the passwords being shared too! After several atempts at ccbill fixing my password script it finally expires the old ones now. Otherwise you would have to run the cleenup script yourself. The problem with mine was at the start of each new day after the first signup of that day the cleanup script or whatever its called is supoed to remove the expired users. This was not happening.

#1 ccbill cleanup script.
The problem with that script is due to a call it makes while half way through the cleanup. They can fix that and have indentified the problem.

#2. ccbill does offer a script which will stop members from choosing their own password - you have to ask for it. It selects upper and lower case letters with random numerals.

Hey Phil, Last year I did some checking into the password sites, as in,
some really in-depth studies of what those guys are doing....

Rustled up some 200+ odd Password sites, Contacted them all...
Surprise, Surprise. Most of them have a LOT in common.
Subbmissions are almost IMPOSSIBLE to the majority of them,
no matter how you submit them. In Fact, the only really favorable
responses I recieved was when I offered to send money.

I have listed the addies of about 1/3 of what I have, YOu want the rest?
DO the legwork. But leaking your info to these guys is not going to do any good. Why is that you say? LOL! You figure it out.

Bottom line appears to be... Well, what do I actually care?

Dude, it's pretty damn common that people create fake password sites which lead to fake paysites.

Go get a life and fuck yourself while you're at it.

Equinox, True True!

But that was not what I was asking here.

http://falcon:[email protected]/index.html
http://www.banditspasswords.com/passwords.html

Both urls are ownered and operated by the same owner. Which then allows a password site owner to dodge the rules on password sites and then allows him to send traffic to a fake site and then to make signups.

Leo's http://www.ultrapasswords.com/
is the one that nailed me a few times.

it's real for sure!

heres how it works
Leo post real hacked password to real paysites
surfers bookmark and come back again and again
Leo gets huge traffic
Leo sells links and makes bling bling
Webmasters buying links makes the bling bling
webmasters with no protection whos passwords were posted to build all the traffic get big bandwidth bill only.
end of story

Chazzy1,

yeah, I understand 99.9% of the password sites are simply "fronts" so to speak for getting traffic.

But, there are definitely more than a few that post real working passwords. These ARE hacked passwords, as I have the logs to prove it. The point is, I'd not "submit" stuff to people, I'd simply dangle a few carrots here and there and see what bites.

case in point:

I host a small paysite for a guy in the UK. Decent design, etc. just not much promotion and it's fairly nichy hardcore stuff, not exactly the "huge" paysite type.

for a longass time, he had under 30 total members in his password file. Did maybe 10-25GB/mo depending. Then he had a traded password. Yeah, he pulled 120GB that month, and then another 150GB the next month when another couple were leaked (and all ran for no more than 4 hours each, most like 1.5 hours).

So.. before he was listed he had around 30 paying members.

guess how many now?

Think 60? 100% gain in membership? Sounds good..

Naw, think higher. ;)

207 listed accounts, you can figure at least 200 of those are actual paying customers.

that's freaking insane.. for a cost of less than 250GB, he gained about 150 users. Without any work from him whatsoever, other than collecting the checks and cutting me a check for bandwidth.

I know that a hell of a lot of sites "promote" through password sites, but I never thought a *real* hacked password listing of about 4 or 5 times over 2 months would net more than a handful of new signups.

All I can say, is holy shit. ;)

-Phil

p.s. To the guy who asked about the password area protection we offer.. It's only to those that host with us, it essentially works like a pennywize or something, only we maintain everything and guarantee it's effectiveness.

same here , but at least those sites will now install better protection , & maybe it'll make it harder for password sites to survive if sites better protect themselves..

Hey SpaceDog...

I dont see what you will gain from this. The site will just move to a new hosting company and then it starts again and again.

Lets hope the webmaster didnt see you trying to stabtage his/her sites.

Hi,

We changed our password requirements for our webmaster over a year ago to not allow usernames and passwords to be the same nor can the passwords be a dictionary word. We allow customers to chosse their own access information for ease of rememberance but the rules above apply.
This has decreased password hacking over 95%. I suggest everone does this.

Mitch

I found for me that the password monitoring software I am using works pretty good, and I have it set up in two stages

first stage works on a separate cgi which monitors the system as the users get into the first "splash" welcome to bal bla bla site members area

the second stage works on the main content area and checks the user again as they login to the content area

the other thing that you can do in this case is set the thresholds at different levels

so far so good

I have had some password traders, but the script is triggered at a pretty low threshold, and I usually keep the suspended users on file so even if they pay again ... their username is locked out it's a bit of a headache for aol users with multiple ips but nothing too bad

There is a thing with ccbill not deleting old users sometimes, but this seems to be looked after with cleanup in most of the cases

Their tech support is pretty good as well, so I would suggest calling them, if you are getting expired users clinging on too much

another thing you can do is "ban" the password traders by emailing ccbill or whatever ccprocessor you are using

I used to get tons of trial sign up password traders, they sign up for a trial and then post the username on their site... as if they hacked it

oh well lifes a bitch, back to the grind, have a nice day everyone ;)

Wot's all this, then?

Am I the only one who sees any kind of discrepancy here? Let's examine the following 2 quotes, first of spacedog, & then of the required TOS agreement between the posters of this site, and this site itself...

TOS Agreement of GFY.com :
By clicking the Agree button, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.
If you will kindly excuse me for saying so, for someone that acts SO concerned with obeying rules & treating others fairly, spacedog has acted extremely childish in this thread, and also seems to be breaking his agreement with GFY.com, as I found his post to be totally obscene, extremely vulgar, & very hateful.

How many times per day, just on the average, mind you-

How many times a day does this person maintain his composure long enough to present a logical, mature, & intelligent argument to persuade others to his point of view? I am guessing ZERO times a DAY, at this point. He seems to prefer kicking, screaming, & throwing a hissy-fit like a little schoolgirl, just as Barry pointed out.

Apparently, when this spacedog was in school, he was taught that using flagrant vitriolic uncontrolled profanity was a sign of a well-developed mature adult.

I realize that Barry posted some of spacedog's personal information, but I disagree with spacedog on the opinion that Barry had no right to do so. All of spacedog's personal information was obviously gotten from easily-obtained public records, which by definition, are NOT "private" at all.

This is the year 2001. If you want complete & total "anonymity", I suggest that you find yourself a cave in the mountains, shun all human contact, & STAY OFF the internet for the rest of your life.

You CAN protect your privacy, with a little bit of cranial matter.

There are several free anonymous proxy surfing services available for anyone that has any intelligence whatsoever, which I have to assume leaves spacedog out in the cold.

Instead of using a search engine to find a free anonymity provider, as he should, & most intelligent adults would, he'll most likely curse me out, just like he did to Barry.

Here is a little free advice for you, spacedog...

Whenever you are having an intelligent debate with people that are trying to make a complete & utter fool out of you in public, try to not make it so ridiculously easy for them to do.

that is exactly what about half who have commented on this topic make me do.

I rarely waiste my time on the message boards. I spend my time creating sites and cashing checks.

I was getting message from people saying my site freshmanclass.com was all over some message board so I thought I would check it out.

Yeah... I own freshmanclass.com and I own banditspasswords.com . I think the only one close to the concept here is spacedog. Anyone else here taken the time to research all the other sites listed on banditspasswords ? Here, I'll save you a bunch of fucking time... I own 70% of them. the other 30% are normally friends sites who are in the same field as mine.

For the most part. there are no real passwords. I know I damn sure don't want any listed on my passwords sites. If I find a real password on my site, the first thing I do is ban it so it never gets listed again. Lets use our fucking brains here !!! Why the fuck would I want to send my surfer into a real paysite when I can send them into a fake site I made and own that will make money ?

It is all one great big scam..... My password sites have been for 2 years. Why....cause it fucking works.... I get 2-3K per day in search traffic per password site....why..... because surfers are attracted to the term free.... This year I have feed companies asking to get their feeds listed on my fake members sections casue they want the traffic and upsells. It is all a big scam, it has been for a long time.

Here is another similar scam that:
http://bow2:[email protected]/members

Hell, half the free hosts right now have in their header or footer:

FREE XXX PASSWORDS...

Why....because it works....because it gets more clicks than any other advertising they have tried.

Also...I want to say a quick thanks for all the publicity. I wondered about 2 days ago why suddenly I have tons of adult webmasters e-mailing me, asking me to advertise for them. Now I know why

actually password sites do make decent money. its just another entity in the adult biz. the government has never interfered in any way with a password site.. why? because they view it as a business to business problem. that was something along the lines of what i read in one of the first few issues if Klixxx.
