Favourite black and white films?

Anybody else enjoy a black and white film ever now and then? Which are your favourites and do you have any hidden gems you would recommend?

Some of my b&w faves would have to include:

Arsenic and Old Lace
To Kill A Mockingbird
Third Man

and if we are allowed to go more modern then Clerks

Raging bull is one of my favorites. And Schindler's List is not actually entirely black and white, the girl in red appears in the movie.

So this one isn't old but Christopher Nolan is my favorite writer/director and before he did Memento he did "Taken"... B&W film, gritty, twisted, and very fun. I highly recommend it :P

If you havnt seen "Who's afraid of Virginia Wolf" do yourself a favor and grab it. One of the most intense movies with some of the best performances of all time (won a few Oscars if Im not mistaken)

Alchoholism, insanity, amazing plot twist at the end. One of my favorites of all time!

There is also a Luc Besson one I watched recently that is about ten years old but I can't remember the name.

Wait!!! You guys have missed one of the funniest films ever made!!!

The Thin Man
With William Powell and Mirna Loy

He is a retired detective, she is an heress.... It's basically a comedy/murder mystery where they spend most of the movie drunk off of their asses.

Great great film IMHO.

OH.... and also "Best Years of Our Lives" is another totally awesome tearjerker of WWII vets returning home and trying to fit back into society.

yep, love William Powell and i had a crush on Myrna Loy as a wee lad in the 70's. She was hot, and the Thin Man series was one of the best.

their all pretty hysterical, one of my faves is animal crackers...hail fredonia!

total geniuses in comedy and music.

there was a story (70s or 80s) about a guy who was dying of cancer and he was severely depressed so he went to a hotel with his vhs player and most of the marx bros movies. He came out of his depression and beat the cancer, claiming the marx brothers saved his life.

no one has ever managed to repeat that kind of comedy ever imo.
