What's the easiest diet to follow?

I'm only trying to lose 10 lbs but seems those are the hardest to go. I go to the gym 3x a week and although I don't pig out, I already know that one thing that needs to go is the damn beer (yeah I'm a beer drinking chick).

I've tried a few diets in the past and low carbs are usually the easiest to follow but wanted to know if anyone has had luck with any others. I don't have a problem with discipline, I just need more of a social diet. In other words I don't want to be the annoying person in a group saying I can't eat there or there because it doesn't fit my diet. Suggestions?

the absolute best diet i have found that fits into a social lifestyle is daily intermittent fasting.

that being said, you will struggle if you drink during the diet cycle, there's no way around that.

is this the last 10 pounds of flab on your body or is this just 10 pounds? what are your specs?

Go with the South Beach diet, a low carb diet that is pretty easy to follow. And yeah, the beer will do you in. Switch to white wine. Also drink lots of water and stay away from any type of sodas, iced teas (unless you brew it yourself without sugar or honey)...etc

Detox for a month, cleans your pipes and lose weight.

Simply buy some fiber pills, makes you feel full and bloated all the time.

There is no easier way than a ketogenic diet (restricting carbs). It doesn't get easier than having no appetite and high energy levels.

If the low carb "diet" worked for you then why not just stick with that

if you're going to the gym you might want to try a low carb high protein diet and not worry about what the scales show. Remember that fat is lighter than muscle, so if you add muscle tissue at the gym, your weight won't decrease but you'll look better, be healthier etc

BTW, the best diet is a balanced diet. The largest percent of your energy intake should come from carbs, just monosaturated carbs - like beans not potatoes. The second largest percentage should be proteins and then sugars.

Yeah, low carb has worked for me in the past it's just hard to follow when you enjoy pasta and breads so much but I can do it for a limited period.

I wouldn't be opposed to detoxing, so you just buy the pills and keep consuming the same foods or do you have to modify what you eat?

yeah, adapting is tough for some people because of the impact it can have on brain function as your brain adapts to a slightly different fuel source than glucose. however, most people can't/won't stick to any diet and i believe that one that kills you appetite/cravings while still maintaining energy levels and not leaving you in a constant state of hunger, depletion and craving shitty food, is a better option for most people.

you know yourself, there is no perfect/easy solution that doesn't involve a syringe or fist full of pills.

In a perfect world, people would just set a daily goal for caloric intake, eat the appropriate amount of fats/proteins/carbs and do 30 - 40 mins of cardio a day. But....

Gotta eat less. In terms of struggling it I'd say drinking water and preparing healthy yogurts at home.

if that's the case, i'd do it with some uber hardcore cardio + a bit of diet modification. if your cardio intensity is high enough, and this is not the last 10 pounds you have to lose, you won't have to worry AS MUCH about diet as you would if you were losing it via 100% dieting.

+ the cardio will get you in shape to chase & haul your rug rat around.

detoxing is a diet myth. please tell me what foods you consume that your body cannot detoxify on it's own?

that's the ultimate right answer-- the best diet is the one you can stick to.

I can do all except for the salt. I give two shits about cake or any sweets but give me something salty and I will destroy it...

this is silly advice. sorry, but it is. fiber pills are not magic. i can promise you that if i eat more cals than i burn while also chomping fiber pills all day, i'll get fat while i'm spending more time than ever in the shitter.

that's a fact.

The only reason I would do this would be to clean up my system and not as a way to lose weight. Sort of like a jump start but you are right, not much our bodies can't get rid of on it's own.

well, i am a big proponent of fiber, we don't get enough & the usrda is not enough either. once i routinely started consuming 50-60+ grams of fiber a day, i started feeling a lot better. but i get all that naturally, from food.

Yeah... this is an annoying topic for sure that almost always defies the basics of human physiology and that relies heavily on bad sounding, yet undefined, vague buzzwords like "toxins". People act like your body isn't designed to eat and digest food.

It's what i'm doing right now. For me personally, its always been the easier way to restrict calories and still have the energy/ambition to do workout and do cardio. In fact, I grabbed Lyle Mcdonalds book after you posted about it on here. Didn't realize he had written so many after The Ketogenic Diet.

I am also a big advocate of this diet but indeed the first week or two are tough. Bad breath, no energy, headaches, CRAVINGS and no alcohol to cope with it all either

However once you are past that initial phase, you shed weight like no one's business. Only thing is that for only 10 pounds, this is a bit extreme I think. I would do this if I needed to lose 20 or more pounds.

I have a diet that I think works best and it's basically a fluctuating carb intake diet. I call it the ABC diet. A is super lowcarbs day, B is Moderate carbs day and C is Super high carbs day. This is used to really pick up the metabolism and really kick things into gear. I'd suggest cardio at least 3 times a week to help as well.

this and what dyna mo is saying will work best. It does slow you down though, i had major crashes the first 3 days avoiding carbs, but i'm a carb junkie so you probably can hack it better than i did.

also the sauna is your friend... 20-30 min sessions at a time. You are losing mostly water weight yes, but you burn calories from fat doing this as well.

whats up. i did a degree in Biochemistry. Our prof told us this about losing weight. What people don't realise is that excess energy is stored in fat droplets. In women this is around the hips and stomach, in men around the organs first, and then the stomach.

to 'lose weight' your body has to be in such a state of starvation that it actually starts eating itself. you have to figure out do you want to FEEL good or lose weight.

If you want to feel good, i suggest spending the money on a gym, or some equipment. This will give you the peace of mind you may require.

If you want to lose weight, try eating half of what you do now, and running every day for an hour and a half for a month. I'm no doctor, but if you've just had a baby i definitely don't recommend this.

Thats pretty much it. The duality of man. We all want to look good, but we like the taste of cake/fries.

I'm planning on not being too social for a few days once I start a diet. Mainly because I know I'm gonna be a bitch on wheels but should also help with the initial crash. I think that low carb, high protein is still the best to follow. I'll just cut the first stage from 2 weeks to one week and introduce some complex carbs to get some workout fuel.

Holy crap how do you get 50 grams? That sounds like a lot of food. What would your typical day consist of, in regards to fiber intake.

Not at all, I don't really have the time to do a ton of it but one hour 3 times a week is what I'm doing now. Just need to add a diet to it in order to achieve my goals sooner.

Well, if you don't get what healthy eating is and can't just make the adjustment on your own, i would say this:

Figure out how many calories you burn on average each day

Set a target of 500 cals or so below that

Eat only clean/healthy foods (i.e. http://bodyforlife.com/library/food-list)

Write every single thing down and its values (proteins/carbs/fats/calories) that goes into your mouth to make sure you are actually on track

Do some cardio daily to further increase daily caloric deficits

Adjust calories up or down as needed
Adjust cardio up or down as needed
Always drink lots of water

Expect to lose 1-2 pounds per week

Create a 60 day plan to follow and to achieve your goal.

There is only one simple formula that is sure to work (no matter how many different ways there might be to express the same basic formula) and your body isn't going to cheat the laws of thermodynamics. Calories in vs Calories out.

you don't need to do a ton. if you are already doing INTENSE cardio 3x a week, then it is simply a matter of getting your diet sorted out.

so to answer your question, i'd simply cut 250 cals out your daily food intake. that would translate to ~1 pound fat loss per week under your current conditions. if that's not enough, cut another 250 cals, etc. this could very well be beer. not sure how much you drink.

that seems like it would be the easiest way for you.

Solid advice there and yeah in the end the amount of calories going in/out is what counts.

Rice is rice. As it pertains to being a source of energy, stable blood sugar/insulin, cravings etc, its no better than white rice.

EDIT: instant rice of course, is worse than brown/white rice

you will have to get pretty close to the actual cals burned #, it's the trade-off. dieting alone is easier counting calories than dieting + cardio, harder to figure out how many you burn in an hour of cardio.

Shey,

If you time is limited, I highly suggest you swap any cardio work you are doing for Interval Cardio training. By switching to intervals you will actually accomplish far more in less time, and interval cardio training will keep your body burning calories for up to 48 hours after you step off whatever machine you are using. It is fairly simple to do:

5 minute warm up at 50%
1 minute at 90%
2 minutes at 70%
1 minute at 90%
2 minutes at 70%
1 minute at 90%
2 minutes at 70%
1 minute at 90%
2 minutes at 70%
1 minute at 90%
2 minutes at 70%
5 minute cool down at 50%

you can start at 3 intervals and work your way up to the full 5. This will take you a total of 25 minutes and will shoot your caloric burn through the roof.

With this I agree with Dyna Mo, increase your fiber intake, swap your breads and pastas for whole wheat, but read the packages and make sure there aren't a bunch of hidden crap in there like HFCS. Many brands say whole wheat and then sneak shit like that in there. So read the labels. There are high fiber versions of whole wheat bread, whole wheat tortilla's, etc.

You have to decided whats more important beer or losing the ten lbs. Also before people can give you advice. Need some background to be effective. Age? Height? Weight? any medical issues? Show us what you put in your mouth say for 3 days? Then advice can be given, but it all comes down to is the ten pounds more important than the things that give you pleasure?
(I bet I just made Dyno Mo proud

Hehe, fair enough, I was asking more on a general basis but to get more specific, female, 34yo, 5'7", 155lbs, hypothyroidism but under control. I eat everything, from burgers to a bowl full of veggies, I am not watching what I eat at all just trying not to be a pig.

For now, the 10 pounds are top priority, just had a baby so been working on getting back in shape. Already lost 20 out of the 30 that I gained just by popping the baby out and starting to work out but as we all know the last 10 are the hardest.

Simple my ass hahaha I'm gonna need a cheat sheet to remember it but I will try it for sure. In three months I want to start doing more fun activities such as martial arts or outdoor sports but for now I need to build up my strength.

no special diet.... just eat normal (healthy), drink lots of water every day and walk 1 hour a day (preferably power walking)...

this way you will loose the pounds in no time...
