Why are urls posted on via my iPad not showing as clickable?

Never mind, we have a brilliant report posts button, so it's all good.

Microsoft have a growing problem, one that's going to become more apparent as time goes on. That problem is the new free model of OS upgrades adopted by Apple.

As we move further and further away from Moore's Law and the upgrade cycle of hardware slows for consumers, then Microsoft will be ever more bound to making money from OEMs than users upgrading.

Meanwhile over at Cupertino, Apple made the decision to provide it's users OS upgrades for free.

This leaves a stark contrast between Microsoft and Apple. Microsoft charging users to upgrade and Apple giving upgrades away for free.

In most developed economies I've travelled to, if you walk into a cafe you'll see more Macbooks these days than PC laptops.

Now Apple is teaming with IBM to take BYOD to the enterprise level.

I don't know what Microsoft plans for the future, but whatever it is had better be good because slowly and surely Apple is starting to catch up.

Will be interesting to see what they do with the next version. Would be nice if they totally scrapped that touchscreen crap from the desktop os, but im not holding my breath.

I forgot about it a week after I installed it...and went back to Windows 7.

I think MS jumped the gun on the whole "everyone is going mobile" thing.

We have one of the original IPAD's

It can't get the latest OS updates and half the apps that are designed to work on the thing. Total bullshit.

Microsoft should hire someone who is not a complete nerd, has a healthy social and sex life, and actually goes out into the world to live life. That one person could be the safety stop button that prevents disasters like Windows 8, the windows 7 launch parties, trying to compete with Apple by launching Surface, etc etc.

You are correct, they don't really care about the old computers as they don't make any money off of them. Granted you may buy apps but unlike Microsoft you don't pay for the upgrades (or meagerly compared to buying new hardware from them).
Plus with the first iPad everything seems to crash (low ram, only 256MB). So I gave it to my momma!

One of my side jobs is working as an iPhone/iPad repair tech for a company called iCracked, it's interesting the stats we get on repairs 90% is screen replacement from shatters. I'm a little worried about the new Sapphire glass coming out for new iPhones though... luckily it's only a sidejob.

You would think that they would have a way to upgrade the ram on an Ipad. Just seemed shitty to make something, market it, and then it was obsolete in 2 years.

iPads are great for reading books, or digital copies of my favorite newspapers or magazines. I read that the iPad one didn't get iOS updates because it's RAM to screen size was too low. It would always crash during netflix and I couldn't have too many PDFs in iBooks or it'd crash. Companies that write apps don't really test as much for them because the market share is probably only 10-15% to those that have the newer models, plus the people with newer models do tend to have more money. Bad news if you like to hold on to older hardware which works with the PCs for even up to 5-6 years.

It does suck, and so does repairing iPads I replaced an iPad Air (5th generation) screen last week and those things are all glued together and so brittle. It gets worse with each newer one as they make them thinner and thinner and the screens get that much more brittle.
Even though you can take them apart, there is nothing you can do to enhance them.

If the next gen iDevice is remarkable compared to the last, people with at least some money and little clue as to the internals will buy it, and they know this.

I like Apple, I'm not a fan boy by any measure, but if you love Apple and if you develop for them particularly you are doomed to be sucked into their rapid development cycle where you have to keep abreast on the newest OS changes.

Only the iPad 1 can't run iOS7. I use an iPad 2 , several generations old and have been able to update to the latest version every time.

As for Mac OS X updates, I run Mavericks on a five year old Macbook Pro.

How can I forget it?
Years of therapy won't get me past this Windows 8 debacle.

Oh wait - Microsoft released Windows EIGHT POINT TWO which fixed EVERYTHING, right? Look kids, a Start menu!

Pathetic.

Just stick with Win 7 as fans of XP did for years ignoring all of the other "upgraded" versions. I plan on doing that. I LOVE Win 7!

It is quick, stable, and I am totally productive with it.

I touch my phone and I touch myself now and then...but have no desire to touch my computer monitor!

Yeah, not a fan of Windows 8 at all, though it seems to run really nicely on my friend's Surface 3. If there was EVER a tablet that could actually replace a laptop, that's it.

In terms of ANYTHING not touch screen, Windows 8 sucks.

Windows 8 is/was a great Operating System.... Microsoft did botch it up for regular people... but its a great OS!

Install "Classic Shell" on it and its the best/most solid WinXP you've ever had

Reality Check: Windows 8 Outpaces OS X Mavericks by More Than 5 to 1

Since 2001 (13 years) OS X has achieved a whopping 6.74% marketshare.

Meanwhile, in two years Windows 8 (the OS considered a failure, and with the most whiny bitches in Microsofts history) is today at 13.37% marketshare.

Sure the cafes may be filled with Macbook owners drinking Macchiato, Café au lait, Espresso and other fancy exotic coffee, while flashing their shiny laptops. Meanwhile in the rest of the world 90% are people using PCs.

I'm just not sure why so many people have so much problem with Windows 8. From a productivity standpoint, I run it on a multi-monitor setup (4 monitors), and it's native support for independent taskbars on each monitor alone increase productivity over any previous version.

As for the Start Button. That just cracks me up. Everyone has a keyboard with a Windows Key. Click it. THAT's been the actual start button since windows 95. And then customize the Start Menu to have only what you want on it.

What MS screwed up on the most was making such a "radical change" without informing people of two simple things:

1. Edit your settings to boot directly to the Desktop Mode instead of "Metro"

2. Install normal programs via the desktop instead of the store. Installing via the store puts you inside "Metro" to use them like apps.

Beyond that, it's significantly faster, very stable, more efficient and with increased productivity (in a multi-monitor environment there's no comparison unless you install 3rd party tools to achieve the same efficiency).

Ultimately, it just works. That said, I also never had any problems with VISTA either. In the end, however, there's really no reason for anyone on Windows 7 to upgrade to 8 unless they want to stay current, or have incompatibility concerns. Windows 7 works just fine as well.

No one seems to have noticed it, but M$ is putting in less effort into operating systems and software, and more effort into products.

Right now as I type this I am in an apartment in Prague on a M$ Surface. Why buy an iPad when I have a tablet that can do everything an iPad can do and have a full PC at the same time. It's perfect for traveling.

Rochard: that new MS Surface Pro 3 is a potential game changer. It's easily a replacement for a laptop and a tablet. I would not use it for a desktop replacement (to this day I am amazed anyone can be productive on a laptop as compared to a proper multi-monitor desktop setup), so for me it would not replace a desktop. But to replace our iPads and laptops? Absolutely.

The more I used Windows 8 the more I enjoyed SOME aspects of it...but I just couldn't work as good on it as I could with a Windows 7 desktop or even a linux desktop so I'm still using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit Edition on my Work and Gaming rigs.

I couldn't agree with you more.

I have the Pro 2; I am using it right now here in Prague. Love it, it's perfect for traveling. The Pro 2 is a tablet that has full PC ability, and the Pro 3 will be a great laptop.

I also don't understand how people can be more productive on a laptop instead of a PC. I use a full PC on a daily basis. I use a laptop every day... But you cannot beat having multiple monitors. However, some people do it.

But to replace our iPads and laptops? Absolutely.
I got a Macbook Pro with Retina display. I hook it up to my Apple Cinema display which gives me a full full 28" display. I can hookup multiple screens using the thunderbolt cable.
I got a good 16 GB ram and 768 GB flash drive, my CPU got 8 cores in total (quad core with hyper-threading)
If I need more space I can connect external drives through thunderbolt and get a full 10 GBPs, faster than SATA3.... And its bootable, I can essentially change my OS and everything by replacing the external drive, without loosing performance.
What can you do on your desktop I can't do from my laptop? I'm pretty sure it supports more monitors, higher resolutions and more storage.

I did see the new tablet ads, they look pretty cool ! I still think both Apple and Windows is going to loose marketshare in the next 2 years.

I was a big fan of windows xp and waited a long time for windows 7. YES I never jumped on the vista bandwagon and seems like a good decision today. The computer im posting on now has, drumroll... Windows 7 and I have used it for the past 3 years and I like the design, technology and user friendliness. Was I in doubt when I heard about Windows 8? YUPP!

Tested Win 8 on a preinstalled laptop I got half a year ago, did not go long before I format c: that bitch.

I wish I was as good in choosing girls as I was in choosing operating systems

But im not!

But I got a plan. I need to start seeing girls as an operating system. Don't accept when your girl or woman gives you the blue screen of death, be tough and format her on the spot. I dont have time for games and hassle!
