I think I'm getting 3D STUDIO MAX down good!
I'm about to start building boxes and circles LOL
![]() Like I said before though, it's like studying medicine. The future of this though is complete elimination of the actor and total control to the writer who has been screwed since the beginning of SOCIAL ELITIST BUSINESSES! ![]() ![]() |

Just saying. To me POSER is limited but I like it cause characters are predesigned, but 3D MAX is the balls and gives you absolute control. I've never used LIGHTWAVE or MAYA but heard they are the same. I think there is no 3D MAX for MAC. P.S. I'm still a complete babe (babe like newb LOL) actually, but it is really starting to kick in for me. It's all about creating nonsense over and over until you can visualize that third plane |

I've been doing 3D as a career for around 13 years, and I'm still learning new shit every day. I actually spent most of today doing tutorials for Zbrush. Just started to get into GPU rendering, which is awesome.
My software of choice was Lightwave at first, then I moved over to Softimage a few years back.

I know people that work at LUCAS FILMS, DIGITAL DOMAIN, and DREAMWORKS, but they all have proprietary systems based on 3D PROGRAMS (well, 3D programs, you know what I mean). I like gaming companies the best, ROCKSTAR etc. |

I have (if you can believe this) Bryce 3D and poser. I had a blast playing with them years ago. I had 3D Studio Max at one time but that was a few computers ago

3D MAX is the SHIT! I had Bryce and Poser in the Beginning, but NEW POSER is almost as advanced as 3D MAX if you can believe it.

3DS is by far the best but not the easiest to use. I usually use it for complete scenes and Mya for individual components to a build. Motion Builder, Z Brush and Mud box are also good apps to have access to. I love Z Brush for terrain meshes and its very easy to do however, I get better terrains using MudBox. Something else to look into is Unity 3D for your live environments. Easy to import, light and animate and particles are pretty much a no brainer there.
Here is a scene I created in 3DS that is now live in a virtual world. ![]() |

Yes, I build very low poly and do most with textures and bumpmaps. This whole scene and the areas outside will run on almost any PC.

I've been here for a few years to get input and adult industry knowledge for a huge adult 3d side project. I'm hoping for it to be the Avatar of 3D smut. My medical animation business has been doing so well, it's getting harder to pursue the adult stuff -- but if I had my way, that's what I'd really be doing. Those big studios you mentioned are using more off the shelf software these days than you might think. The gap between has shrunken in both software and hardware. They're not using systems much faster than what I build for myself, its just that they can afford hundreds of systems to get rendering done. I have five.

Here's some stuff I did while testing my new GPU renderers...Octane and Arion. Finishes much faster than CPU, and looks more realistic.

this is cool, don't get me wrong and most people can't do it, but your inogranic stuff, like that perfume and those rings look like photographs - seriously - totally awesome shit I would be trying to figure out how to set up lights for!

The medical organic stuff is usually done stylistically, because its seriously difficult to get a real look with gooey, organic things. Also, that was years ago, before the whole photorealism renaissance thats been going on recently. The lighting for that realistic GPU renderer(the perfume, jewelry, bathroom counter etc) is done without direct lights. Its more of a brute force global illumination. You create the set and put the objects in it. There's a 3d daylight system which will cast ambient light through the windows and bounce rays around the scene. Most of the work is in the modeling and surfacing.

You have to convert them to a type of UV map called a Sculpt Map that comes out as a JPEG which you import. Then you can use a Prim Modifier and add the map to the prim. It then takes on that shape. If you ever want to meet up and see this in world, hit me up in my email and I'll show you around.

How fast can you work 3D? I mean does it depend or does it take time no matter what? I'm just curious. What would hold you back from making a game like resident evil on your own? Explain it like I'm clueless cause I am! |

![]() Just kidding. If you need some tutorial links let me know. I think these few have really helped me if you can get into making shit you don't really give a shit about. I have to get back into making money soon but thought this might help in the future, at least the basics! ![]() |

I did a year of 3DS at Uni, everything I did looked like a cartoon lol, the colours and lighting were always too flat and just never got my head around it so stuck with After Effects and Photoshop.

I've been using Maya for many, many moons. I've never tried to jump into 3DS, but I'm sure it crosses over nicely. I used to live next to an art school and would use their render farms, but I had to move and now I hardly ever render anything.

this entire thread has blown my fucking mind seriously. Back when I owned Apollos-Temple I used 3D objects created in poser and bryce for the tour with some simple roll over images, Like a statue for a section would be blurry, roll over it and the statue would appear and someone modeled a greek temple for me over at renderosity...damn, that was back in 97!
most of the stuff I did was glass ball in cube on volcano type of shit LOL wall papers and stuff. The skill in these posts absolutely fucks my head up |

The latest version of Blender, the open source 3d app is supposed to have a much friendlier interface (It's main problem up to now), worth checking out.

Some fantastic renders in this thread
![]() I really struggled with 3ds max until i found a very thorough tutorial for making a car. Suddenly a lot of things just made sense. Havn't touched it for about 5 years now though so I expect i've completely forgotten everything again ![]()
