Losing weight by counting calories.. no fucking all chicken/fish and vegetables diet.. lost 16 lbs

I'm not fat, but I had around 30 lbs of coke and pizza fat on my belly that I wanted to get rid off..

The wife and I tried "real" diets before where you stuff yourself with healthy shit and after 2-3 weeks all the damn vegetables is getting to me..

Anyways.. 7 weeks ago we started going the calorie counting way and it has been a success story ever since.. I've lost 16 lbs so far and she's lost almost twice that.

Basically I'm eating what I fucking want, I just cant go over 1500 calories a day.

The first few days I was a little hungry at times, but it goes away quite fast.

Obviously you don't wanna spend your 1500 calories eating a meal at McDonalds (even though you could) because you'll end up being hungry as fuck the rest of the day.

My typical dinner would be spaghetti with meat sauce and parmasan cheese.. and often I drink a can of Coke with it too.. (sugar coke, not gay diet/zero)

If you're trying to loose weight and have tried the old fashioned I wanna kill myself diets you should really consider this way.. I'm really surprised how easy it is to lose weight this way.

Here is a tip for you, eat strong food in the morning cheese, spaghetti, etc.. in the afternoon eat some meat, potatoes etc, in the evening eat vegi, rice, fish, and drink as much tea with lemon as you wish during the day without sugar. if you can add 1h walk or some exercise you will lose weight in more healthier way and you will have more energy after only week or two.. Btw it's healthy to lose weight 5kg-7kg a month not more than that!

Congrats! Agreed counting cals works and as you said it forces you to choose better foods.

1500 cals doesnt seem like much tho for a guy and you will def lose weight at that cals.

Best way is to reduce portion sizes a bit while counting cals and giving yourself time (they say 20 mins) to not feel hungry after eating.

I find the hardest part of counting cals is just doing the actual counting all the time. Kind of a pain.

That's awesome and totally a huge step in losing weight.

I use an app called My Fitness Pal to track all my eating stuff, I'm on a 1200 calorie diet. What's interesting to me is that I don't go over calories or fat, but what I have to watch closely is my sugar intake. With 1200 calories I should get like 29g of sugar in a day (before exercising) - a grande iced latte with no sweetener has 15g. It's in the milk.

The other thing when you track your diet is that when I go to input what I ate for the day I feel guilty plugging in a soda, so I just stopped drinking it.

My meals aren't all veggies either like you said. Yesterday I stayed within 1200 and had:
Coffee, bagel and cream cheese for breakfast
Half ham and cheese sandwich with chips for lunch
Bison slider with fries with beans for dinner

My portions are smaller but I'm finding I'm full after an ounce of bison. I'm not a huge veggie eater, working on it. I do eat fruit though ...

you can eat a lot more of the good stuff than you can of the bad stuff. its kinda pointless if you continue to eat like crap in my opinion. you're still clogging your arteries.

I think that's how that nut Richard Simmons got rich. Cards with various things to eat with a portion size and corresponding calories printed on them. You just deal yourself X amount of calories but eat what you want. Again,

Congrats. Calories burned - calories in = weight lost. Who would have thought arithmetic still holds true even when we'd rather it not. Most people never stop looking for that magic way that they can pig out and still lose weight. Congrats on getting real and getting results.

I usually tell the "I've tried everything, I cannot lose weight!" types that it's strange that there's not fat people in a concentration camp then.

I think the biggest enemy one needs to get rid of is that second portion of food one tend to eat at dinner.

Congrats on the weight loss but you're burning a lot more muscle tissue than fat @ 1500 cals a day. Your food sources play a huge role in that as well.

Depends on what he does for a living... If it is being a webmaster then he doesn't need a lot of calories to maintain his muscle. And if he loses some muscle it will probably be in the legs, glutes, back and shoulders from not carrying a 30 lbs bag on his belly. Muscle he doesn't need because he isn't carrying the bag...

I guess it all depends on if you are losing weight to look good, or to be healthier. Sure, you can lose weight by simply eating what you want under a specific amount of calories a day. But you are still going to have issues with blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol. If you just want to physically look better, then by all means, eat what you want. Getting rid of health issues does depend on better food choices though.

Great work with the diet, but the gym is still the most rewarding part.
Being strong and looking good is a great feeling! Keep it up.

Preserve and build on the muscle you have at any age.
30 min, in and out, lift to faliure. Compound lifts.

Give it 3 weeks to make it a daily habit, get over that newbiness and find a comfort zone.
You're there to workout not socialize! In 3 months you'll be amazed at the difference.

What do you mean, whatever? I could say the same about your 10; I've lost 50+, that does not mean your 10 or his 16 is not a good thing. It is all relative.

I'm 171 lbs, so a 16 lbs loss is a good percentage I think..
If you're 300 lbs, not saying that Rochard is, but then it's a lot easier to lose a lot of weight in a few weeks.

I dropped 32 pounds between November and March just by going to the gym and working hard. I didn't cut out any of my normal foods that I enjoy, I just ran 30-45 mins per day at 6mph and did some bike and eliptical work with arm and chest weights.

After March I have remained steady tho and don't appear to be dropping weight, I'm at the stage now where I need to eat better so I've cut out soft drinks and my weekly pizza to see how that goes. I'm 205lbs, 6' 1", hoping to get down to 185ish in the next 4 months then I will get a personal trainer to get me more toned in time for my wedding in April next year.

I think it might work in the short term, just like that gastric bypass fodder. However, just as has been said about that procedure, you have a period of time before you must change your lifestyle. All of these may be the initial steps to weight loss, but at some point, you need to change your diet and lifestyle.

I think that counting calories would be hard at first, but it's easy enough to eat oatmeal, and chicken breast for a period of time. You can drop weight quickly. However, you are obviously not eating enough greens or fruits, and other stuff to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

By that I mean, we all can agree you should be your target weight, but that is one of a number of healthy considerations. You are supposed to be your healthy weight, be active to some degree, maintain it, and work in enough fruits and veggies while cutting out crap processed foods.

It's a lot more difficult when you add in the FULL picture of being healthy.

Just because you lose weight and are thinner doesnt = healthy. Diet determines health not weight. Health is a life style, being "thin" is just being skinny fat. Muscle is what keep people young.

Easiest way, for me, to limit calories and eat healthy (while not starving): chicken/fish and vegetables. Depending on how you prepare it, that makes for a high-protein meal with low calories and many nutrients.

The other night I had a tuna steak and fresh green beans sautéed in olive oil. Fantastic meal, great protein, good nutrients, low calories. For those of you that think eating healthy is boring, you need to expand your horizons and get out the sauté pan/grill. There are so many great, healthy foods available and they aren't all that expensive if you actually look. Eat seasonal and local produce to save money and help your community, all while getting great nutrients.

So true, a lot of people think that fat is the biggest problem. It isent by far.
Sugar - it`s added in huge volume in everything today. Processed food - a ton of sugar.

Not saying you can or should eat a lot of fat. But dont be so scared about it. Added sugar is the big one.
About the fat, learn a bit about do and dont. As to the different types and what it does to your body.

Agreed.

It's not that sugar or high fructose corn syrup is going to kill you on it's own. The problem is that the VOLUME of this stuff will. Meaning, it's in EVERYTHING, especially processed foods. If you ate the stuff on occasion, and in moderation, you would probably be fine.

But if every meal you eat has a ton of this shit in it, that is where you run into problems. The same for sodium.

The average American consumes 42 POUNDS of high fructose corn syrup a year.

I don't eat it, I don't allow my family to eat it.

There is a difference between being musclebound and having proper, healthy muscle.

When it's in literally EVERYTHING that makes it very easy to do. Especially if you eat a lot of processed food compared to healthy stuff. I am sure it's possible to eliminate it completely, but you would have to be very mindful in that regard. It sounds like you're accomplishing it gingersnaps. Bravo.

counting calories is about as old fashioned as it gets. You eat the veggies because they fill you up with very few calories but plenty of carbs and protein.

But if every meal you eat has a ton of this shit in it, that is where you run into problems. The same for sodium.

Working on eliminating dye, that's a hard one. It's in a lot of stuff and we do give the kids Cheetos, they really like them.

Most of our stuff is made from scratch and I do a lot of canning. Canned tomato sauce, whole tomatoes, BBQ and pizza sauces, relishes, pickles, beans, jam, fruits ... so healthy and saves sooooo much money.

I'm anti-McDonald's. Can't you tell by my avatar? It's tilted to indicate how McDonald's isn't straight-up.

its a good start but in order to not bounce back, which will happen once you stop capping at 1500 cals you need to add in more exercise and more healthier foods. Even small steps at a time can pay off a lot in the end.

I still eat what i want, just less often and mixed with more fruits and vegetables. I haven't been losing much weight lately, because i haven't been exercising as much as i should but I haven't felt this healthy in years because of adding a few small steps at a time every week.

Keeping it off

My GF had liposuction about 20 years ago. Then started doing 2 Susan Powder work outs a day. (They're mean, I can do 5 minutes of the workout). And the Susan Powder diet is zero fat intake. Eat anything else. Although that may have backfired, as her cholesterol levels are high. Strange for someone who never eats. However, she went into Bi-Polar depression and quit working out. Finally got meds, but a side effect is weight gain. From 102 to 150. Age didn't help either as some point over 40, you're going to balloon up. Question is how much. Never saw anyone so little.

If you are drinking coke (i assume you also eat/drink other unhealthy food/drinks), your diet wont help you in the long run. You can eat a lot more than 1500 calories, but you have to eat healthy food.
